got that fixed, it can't print to anything. How can i fix this? I've been using win 7 rc (64-bit) on a new pc (asus m3n78 motherboard, quad-core amd phenom 9500 processor, 4gb pc6400 ddr2 800mhz memory) since mid-july. This is a stand-alone pc connected directly to a lexmark x6170 printer via usb2 cable. There are no routers or networks involved (other than the internet connection via a dsl modem). However, my firewall (comodo internet security) has reported finding (this week) a local area network at 192. 168. 1. 1. The pc had been running fine til last tuesday (10/6). Then it started running like it was full of molasses. It would run ok at start-up, but once i had more than 1 or 2 things running, every little action took several minutes to complete. The action center showed 3 problems, including something indicating that "windows 7 is no longer working" and something else indicating a chipset problem. First, i hit the win7 issue, which thought i wasn't getting updates. (I was, and had gotten an update just a couple of days earlier. ) I ended up downloading an "optional" update having to do with "hd audio". Then i went thru the "chipset" issue and ended up getting several nvidia drivers updated or installed. (I don't remember what the 3rd issue was, but i went thru it as well. ) Since doing all that, the molasses problem is gone. But now, i cannot print to any print driver - either my lexmark x6170 printer or my nuance pdf print driver. (The lexmark is using the 64-bit vista driver from lexmark. ) The win7 printer troubleshooter doesn't find a problem with either one. When i try to print to either one from firefox, i get "an unknown error occurred while printing. " If i try to print from nuance pdf converter pro 5. 1, the print task just disappears. If i try from ms excel 2003, i get either "your file could not be printed due to an error on docucom pdf driver on ne03" or "your file could not be printed due to an error on lexmark x6100 series on ne04" At one point i found another lexmark driver via the microsoft website, and tried installing it. I think its name was something like "lexmark 5600-6500 series". That driver installed to "lpt1", and printing to it failed as well. I then deleted both lexmark drivers last night, and let the pc find the printer and install a driver on its own today. It found the "lexmark x6100" driver, presumably from my hard disk.
