I did a fixmapi command and the error disappeared. It seems that the power shell takes the bad mapi dll to do the export. I just tested again on a new virtual lab, with Exchange 2007 SP1 release, and Outlook 2003 SP2, seems to work now. I will take back the previous config to see if the pb was coming from Outlook 2007, with your solution, but the lab never had Exchange 2003 installed on it. If you log onto this server and manually run the scheduled task it runs fine, takes a long time, but it works. If I log into the server with the service account that has exchange server admin rights http://forums.msexchange.org/export-mailbox_PST/m_1800466079/tm.htm to exchangemail and run it manually it also runs fine, but if I try to let the service run as a scheduled task when no one is logged in as this service account, it fails with "Error occurred in the step: Approving object. I've been having this same error code, but for me it may relate slightly differently. For me, it was because the OU the source user object was in had permission inheritance blocked, which wasn't allowing relevant exchange groups to apply permissions to the AD user object. If you take into account my issue was AD Permissions related, perhaps the same applies for you. cmd.exe allows only interactive users to execute it by

Outlook installed as well as the following pre-requisites… Exchange Management Tools installed (Either from the Exchange 2007 media or the relevant service pack for you Exchange Server version) Windows Power Shell installed If you are using XP make sure .NET Framework is installed This is required because when you run the Export-Mailbox command from Exchange Server itself you get the following Error message - “You are running on a 64-bit computer. To export to or import from a .PST file , you must be running a 32-bit computer that has Outlook 2003 SP2 or later installed.” Once you have followed the above pre-req’s you then need to open the Exchange Management Shell on the management computer ( NOT the Exchange Server) and run the following command - Export-Mailbox -Identity [username] -PSTFolderPath [\\path\to\pst\file.pst] (this could be c:\pst\file.pst) This should then export the mailbox to a PST file, However we didn’t want to export the PST to the management computer as there was not enough space, so my path to the PST was \[exchange server]\folder\file.pst. You can also export a whole mailbox database by inputting the following command - Get-Mailbox -Database "[server]\First Storage Group\Mailbox Database" | Export-Mailbox -PSTFolderPath [\\path\to\folder] When we ran the command to export a single mailbox and got the following error - Export-Mailbox: Error was found for [username] because: Error occurred in the step: Approving object. Access Denied., error code: -2147024891 After further investigation I found a that the Exchange subsystem needed access to the destination folder because being logged in as the system administrator was not good enough for Exchange, also having full access permission to the Mailbox(s) is required. In the Exchange Management Shell I ran this command - Add-MailboxPermission -Identity [username] -User [domain]\Administrator -AccessRights FullAccess On the destination share I added the following security permissions - Exchange Organisation Administrators - Full Control Exchange Recipient Administrators - Full Control ExchangeLegacyInterop - Full Control Exchange Server - Full Control Once I had run the full access command and changed the folder security the mailbox export to a PST without a hitch Written by Matthew Wilkinson-Foster on Monday, 6 Feb 2012 « Back Address : Vertical IO, 183a Watli
