Project Server My Tasks Error
Online and Microsoft Planner Project Server 2010: An unknown error has occurred in Project Center, Resource Center or Tasks ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ Brian Smith - MSFTJuly 2, 201011 Share 0 0 Thanks to my friends at project server 2013 an unknown error has occurred one of our great TAP partners for this resolution. I love it when customers project server 2013 project center an unknown error has occurred solve their own problems, and love it even more when they tell me about it so I can tell you. Happy an unknown error has occurred in project center, resource center or tasks to give them credit for the resolution too – but only when I hear back from them that they are ok with the glory… ***Update *** and have the all clear to name Accenture, and project center 2013 an unknown error has occurred Kranti Deshpande. Thanks for all you work on the TAP and beyond! The error is in red text where the grid should be – and isn’t a normal pop-up that you’d expect from SharePoint, but just text. This appears on the Project Center, Resource Center and also Tasks and Timesheet pages No scripts errors, but I did find some useful things in the Event Log when I reproduced the error. I have copied this at the foot of this blog – mainly there for the search engines, but Event ID 3, WebHost is the important piece. Nothing jumped out at me from the ULS logs – I think this is more an IIS to client issue rather than SharePoint – but I did see some http binding messages (BasicHttpBinding) at about the right time The issue was that in IIS Manager the Authentication for the site was set to use Windows Authentication, but in the Advanced Settings, Extended Protection was set to a value other than Off. Just setting back to Off resolved the issues – and no IISReset required. And for the search engines – the error… Log Name: Application Source: System.ServiceModel 3.0.0.0 Date: 7/2/2010 3:44:42 PM Event ID: 3 Task Category: WebHost Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: domain\user Computer: servername Description: WebHost failed to process a request. This was a little tricky to tie down but it was happening to everyine that had been assigned a task in a particular project. I ensured the resources in the project were properly assigned in the pool (from the enterprise) via Project Professional 2010 but that did not solve it. In the end I took a copy of the project and saved it locally, then completely removed the project on the server. I then opened the local copy and republished - this seemed to https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/brismith/2010/07/02/project-server-2010-an-unknown-error-has-occurred-in-project-center-resource-center-or-tasks/ solve the problem and we can all now access our tasks. - "An unknown error has occurred" UPDATE Microsoft have officially relased a fix for this particular issue. Please refer to Brian Smiths post for more details: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/brismith/archive/2012/04/16/project-server-2010-an-unknown-error-in-project-center-usually-related-to-filters-and-duplicate-custom-field-values.aspx Download the fix from the following link to the Feb 2012 Cumulative Update: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2598251 http://pietremen.blogspot.com/2012/01/project-centre-unknown-error-has.html This issue was raised directly to Microsoft. The last formal communcation I have recieved http://www.epmpartners.com.au/blog/help-i-m-unable-to-add-an-existing-task-to-a-timesheet-a-baffling-project-server-timesheet-issue-resolved/ on this issue is that it has been ackowledged by Microsoft now as a 'known issue'. The current status is that a hot fix is scheduled for release in the April 2012 Cumulative Updates. If you would like to reference our support call in this instance to fast track the process then please quote SR 112020314749718 in an unknown your support call. ISSUEWhen navigating from PWA to the Project Centre, the user is presented with an error message explaining ‘An unknown error has occurred'. This only occurs for some certain views in the project centre but it does affect all users of the Project Server instance. Since Project Server remembers the last view a user has selected this becomes problematic as once the broken view becomes the users default view, the an unknown error next time they navigate to the Project Centre, the view selector on the ribbon bar becomes disabled and disallows them to select an alternative view, therefore completely losing the ability to view the Project Centre all together. Over the last two weeks this incident has occurred four times. We have a work around solution for resolving it but request assistance to ensure this issue does not continue to disrupt our business. STEPS TO REPRODUCE THE ISSUEUnfortunately this is still a mystery. One minute the Project Centre is fine, then someone saves/publishes their project schedule and the Project Centre view breaks. We then need to go through the motion of working out which project schedule has caused the issue and rectify it. RESOLUTION STEPS. Note your most recently published projects around the time the issue begun to identify a potential list of suspect project schedules. Perform an administrative backup of project via PWA>Server Settings>Administrative Backup. This will give you something to restore to if the project is not the culprit. Now if you are not very techy then you can go through the process of elimination. For each projectuse the administrative restore functionality to restore the project schedule. Then open the restored project schedule in project professional and publish the project.. Test th
share a resolution to a baffling timesheet issue I encountered this week. When I went to add an existing task back into my timesheet, I was confronted with the following error. The error in the ULS was rather vague (as it often is). It stated the following:- System.InvalidOperationException: Error during serialization or deserialization using the JSON JavaScriptSerializer. The length of the string exceeds the value set on the maxJsonLength property. at System.Web.Script.Serialization.JavaScriptSerializer.Serialize(Object obj, SerializationFormat serializationFormat) Well, since I’m privileged with working on many support tickets which get translated into timesheet assignments by way of our SPLINK solution, I have thousands of assignments. It turns out there is a limit to the number of assignment before the error above occurs. The resolution I employed was to open the old Support projects no longer in use (Support FY14a, Support FY14b, SupportFY15a) and to “Closed Task to Updates” via the Close Tasks to Update view in PWA; ie. changed Locked status from No to Yes for all tasks. It should be noted that this view by default is not available to anyone as it isn’t associated to any Project Server security categories. In my case, I added the view to the “My Organization” category and then the view was available for use.
