try to publish my site to a local folder (which is my normal workflow) I get a - "Publish error. An unknown error occurred" - message.As far as I can tell the only file missing from the local folder is the index.html file. MAKE A BACKUP before trying any of the steps described on this page I think that’s the most frequent problem people experience using iWeb: “I can’t publish” So here’s a list of things to try to solve these issues. Try the things listed here in the same order as they are listed step by step following instructions to the word. The ones marked as (most useful) were elected by the visitors. • (most useful) Deleting the preferences file: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2561815?tstart=0 1. Quit iWeb 2. Delete the following file: User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iweb.plist 3. Relaunch iWeb If that doesn’t work... Retry it but instead of relaunching iWeb in 3. restart the computer and relaunch iWeb • (most useful) Try repairing disk permissions: 1. Go to Applications/Utilities 2. Open Disk Utility 3. Click Macintosh HD 4. Click on Verify Disk Permissions 5.Click Repair Disk Permissions. • Do not name http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWeb_Troubleshoot_1.html pages “index” in the left navigation bar where iWeb displays the list your pages no matter whether you’re publishing to a server or to a folder ("Thank you Richard!") • Try deleting the .plist files 1. Quit iWeb 2. Find your "domain" file listed in Macintosh HD/Users/Your username/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2 3. Control(ctrl) Click thus RightClick and select "Show Package Contents" 4. Trash the following six .plist files you find in the Package (trash only those six .plist files!): assets.username.plist hitCounters.username.plist lastPublishedLinkBackPointers.plist linkBackPointers.plist localAssets.plist sharedassets.plist 5. Open iWeb 6. Republish the whole site. In iWeb go to the File menu and select “Publish all” (the publish all is really important!) or publish to a folder if you’re a folder publisher - - - - - If you feel adventurous try this last thing but as stated be careful... ! ! !
