Perhaps the http proxy code is reading from the wrong fields in request_properties fields instead of those in prefs/soapui/proxy_settings ? As soon as I tell curl to use my locally installed polipo it fails: $ http_proxy="http://127.0.0.1:8123" curl "http://XXXXX:Pass@example.com/blub/bla.bin"
504 Host XXXXX lookup failed: Host not found
The following error occurred while trying to access http://XXXXX:Pass@example.com/blub/bla.bin:
504 Host XXXXX lookup failed: Host not found
Generated Wed, 12 Mar 2014 22:46:10 CET by Polipo on hostname:8123. $ Is this caused due to an error in Polipo or curl? (Or am I doing it wrong?) EDIT: http_proxy="http://127.0.0.1:8123" curl -u XXXXX:Pass "http://example.com/blub/bla.bin" is working fine. Thanks! authentication proxy curl polipo share|improve this question asked Mar 12 '14 at 21:58 FadenB 41115 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 9 down vote Not necessary to use http_proxy, try this: curl -x PROXY-SERVER:PORT -U USER:PASS URL curl -x 127.0.0.1:8123 -U XXXXX:Pass "http://example.com/blub/bla.bin" share|improve this answer edited Jul 26 at 23:47 Community♦ 1 answered Jun 20 '14 at 10:16 Babyy 1,334921 add a comment| up vote 2 down vote accepted Found the anwser myself after some more digging: http://curl.haxx.se/docs/manual.html states NOTE! According to the URL specification, HTTP URLs can not contain a user and password, so that style will not work when using curl via a proxy, even though curl allows it at other times. When using a proxy, you must use the -u style for user and password. So I was doing it the wrong way :) share|improve this answer answered

They use (I suppose) a Microsoft IIS proxy server. This proxy server has NTLM and Basic authentication (no one can access the service without being first authenticated). When I try to surf the internet thru the proxy I get no errors at all, but mozilla doesn't display any pages and doesn't ask me for any authentication. If I use Netscape Navigator 4.7x it works without problems. This is what I get when I do a telnet on the proxy and try to get a page... --------------------------------------------- devws1 $ telnet msproxy 8080 Trying... Connected to msproxy.
