Rest everything was working just fine except this one piece, where we were getting an Error while trying to run the “Performance Point Dashboard Designer”. Details Lets discuss the scenario and troubleshooting done to get to the Root of the issue. Have a look at the behavior which we could see on the client: 1) First we logged on to the SharePoint Site through the TMG FBA(Forms Based Authentication) Page. 2) Then we went to the link below: 3) After clicking on “Start Using PerformancePoint Services”(as shown above), we got to the Next Page(shown in the Screenshot below): 4) When we clicked on the “Run Dashboard Designer” as shown above, we got the Error as shown below: Clicking on the “Details” Button showed the Results below(I have just pasted the Error Part of it here): -- Inner Exception -- System.Net.WebException - The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized. - Source: System - Stack trace: Troubleshooting While troubleshooting this issue we first gathered the Fiddler Trace from the client end and here is what we saw there for our Request: As you can see above for this particular request(for Dashboard Designer), the client is not sending the Cookie used for FBA(Forms Based Authentication) of TMG. The Default Cookie Name for TMG’s FBA starts with cadata. And we don’t see any Cookie by that name here being sent by the client. And because the client doesn’t send the cookie to the TMG server for this request TMG asks for Authentication back to the client and hence you see that “401 Unauthorized” in the Response Headers in the above Fid

Another common issue is that Windows/IE is not remembering your credentials to pass them to the application. See this MSDN thread for more info on that. share|improve this answer edited Aug 17 '15 at 9:41 imanabidi 7,00343847 answered Jul 20 '13 at 20:06 mmarie 4,14511026 works from servers in the domain for me –imanabidi Aug 17 '15 at 7:50 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote To solve this, you should ensure you add the site to Local Intranet / Trusted Sites on IE and you add the credentials you use to access your SharePoint site to Windows Credentials Manager. share|improve this answer edited Oct 5 '15 at 13:11 answered Oct 5 '15 at 13:03 Amos Wachanga 33 add a co

After applying the October CU for SP2013 and try and launch PerformancePoint Dashboard Designer, you will receive the error message Application cannot be started http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic692300-162-1.aspx and to contact the application vendor. If you click the button to see the details, you will see the following error: * Activation of http://blah/_layouts/15/ppsma/1033/designer.application resulted in exception. Following failure cannot retrieve messages were detected: + Reference in the deployment does not match the identity defined in the application manifest. Now if you google “Reference in the deployment does not match the identity defined in the application manifest. “ you will get hits related to Microsoft’s ClickOnce technology, which is used to install Dashboard Designer. The issue you have is that bits of Dashboard cannot retrieve application Designer were updated with the October cumulative update, but it was not packaged up properly and obviously this got missed during the testing process for the CU. Microsoft published an article on November 19, outlining this issue and a fix, but they never specified the error message in the post, so the article remains frustratingly hard to find. The fix is to backup two files on your Servers and replace them with the versions available from the article. The files in question are: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web ServerExtensions\15\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\ppsma\1033\Designer.Application C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web ServerExtensions\15\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\ppsma\1033\DesignerInstall\Designer.exe.manifest Now watch out as this fix some people have noted that the replacement files do not work in all circumstances. Find out more in the source article… Hope this helps someone. This is not the error you want to get late on a Friday… Thanks for reading Paul Culmsee p.s Full error details below. The workaround Mike gave does work and so far is the only way I can get Report Builder to launch from a non-domain computer. The (perceived) problem is that when you have the credentials stored,, you don't get prompted for a login at all when you hit the
