Googling I find out that that error depends on the fact that yum is not able to get the file from the repository. So, if your network connection is ok (like mine) the cause could be the fact that, due to traffic overload, yum can't get the mirror list from fedora server (that is its default conf on F11) So I commented in .repo definitions the mirrorlist line and I substituted it whith a baseurl to a speedy server near me; I'm in europe so I choose : baseurl=http://ftp.uni-kl.de/pub/linux/

update process. Many users are getting a strange error which complains about the inability of the update system to retrieve the repository metadata, namely repomd.xml. You can see the error as attached in http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=223472 this inlet below: Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. Please verify its path and try again When we tried to install Fedora 11 for the first time, we also faced a similar problem. A quick twitter search brought us to a conclusion that we were not alone. But a little tweaking of a few system files brought us back on track. In this https://digitizor.com/how-to-fix-the-cannot-retrieve-repository-metadata-repomd-xml-error-in-fedora-11/ article we tell you, how to go about resolving the problem in case you face it too. You need to edit two of your repository files: /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repo and /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-updates.repo. Now un-comment all the lines that start with the term baseurl and place a comment before all lines that start with mirrorlist. This should be done for both the above files. Now edit your /etc/hosts file and append the following to it's contents: 80.239.156.215 mirrors.fedoraproject.org 213.129.242.84 mirrors.rpmfusion.org Now try updating your system or installing any software via Yum. You will see, the error is now resolved and the error message is not shown anymore.

I use Fedora 15 fedora yum share|improve this question asked Sep 10 '13 at 7:10 Santhosh 14.4k32547 I ran into a similar problem with cannot retrieve repository the standard fedora repository. There is a big thread on fedoraforum.org where the consensuses seems to be that it is network-related, i.e. yum can't contact hosts in the /etc/yum.repos.d/*.repo files. –Brad Grissom Jul 22 '14 at 22:53 Yes, if there is any network issue, yum cannot contact any repo. But for me, it was only this particular repo file (boxgrinder) that was failing. –Santhosh Jul 23 '14 at 5:34 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted I was able to get rid of this error by removing the boxgrinder repos I removed these files boxgrinder-nightly.repo boxgrinder-noarch.repo boxgrinder-x86_64.repo from /etc/yum.repos.d/ directory. share|improve this answer answered Sep 10 '13 at 8:50 Santhosh 14.4k32547 For people who don't use boxgrinder, but have this problem anyway, look at the other answers. It's about https in the repo file, which should be replaced with http. –SPRBRN Mar 12 '15 at 11:12 add a comment| up vote 2 down vote cd /etc/yum.repos.d/ perl -i -ape 's/https:/http:/g' *.repo worked for me. share|improve this answer edited Mar 7 '15 at 7:29 Magnilex 4,59161945 answered Mar 6 '15 at 20:20 ray.smith 211 cd /etc/yum.repos.d/; perl -i -ape 's/https:/http:/g
