Posted in Support, Troubleshooting Applies to: Docklight / Docklight Scripting (all versions), Article ID: dl_prb032 Some serial driver implementations, e.g for USB devices that add a virtual COM port on the PC, do not allow to set the "classic" RS232 communication settings like IOCTL_SERIAL_SET_BAUD_RATE. For many of these applications, the http://docklight.de/dl_prb032/ serial data settings are indeed not necessary but the driver accepts them and does not report an error. In case your device driver DOES produce an error and Docklight cannot open the COM port, please use the Project Setting ‘Baud Rate = None', available in Docklight V2.0 and higher. NOTE: A specific example for the above behavior seems to be the Microchip CDC sample implementation. If the following definition is commented out (not defined): ‘#define USB_CDC_SUPPORT_ABSTRACT_CONTROL_MANAGEMENT_CAPABILITIES_D1', then the device can only be opened with Docklight using the ‘Baud Rate = None' setting: Docklight Downloads Tags:dl_prb032 Share this article: About Flachmann & Heggelbacher > Home > Information > Testimonials > Downloads > E-Shop > How to Order > Online Manual > Examples > Support > Contact How to Order? Just when I think I figured it out, it does the opposite. It's using a B&B USOPTL4 port convertor, and code 31 on almost every cold boot the device isn't recognized and gives error 31 in device manager. Reinstalling the driver manually and rebooting fixes it, and even just rebooting usually fixes it too. I suspected the convertor itself so I bought the new version, USOPTL4, but no change. The B&B site points me to download a driver package that installs a new entry into Add/Remove programs, but the system code 31 windows will still run without that and just installing the driver manually, it doesn't act any more or less reliable using either method. Has anyone seen the error 31 and figured out how to get around it in Windows 2k? It's a fairly old system, probably getting close to 10yrs. Could a flaky motherboard be the root cause? Much thanks for any tips on where to check. #2 (permalink) October 31, 2012, 05:49 AM enaberif Hall Of Fame Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: Calgahree, AB Posts: 10,810 Sounds like hardware incompatibilities and most likely won't be able to use it. #3 (permalink) October 31, 2012, 07:10 AM On2wheels Hall Of Fame Join Date: Jun 2010 Location: 613 Ontario Posts: 1,219 My System Specs It shouldn't be incompatibilities, the system was designed to run this way, it did for a few years, and there are other units built to copy it that have run fine for almost as many years. Actually the more I think about it, the more it seems like old hardware dieing, motherboard mostly. I was hoping there was a known fix for error 31 codes in Win2k that I could try quickly before writin
