Cs0016 The Directory Name Is Invalid
Brief When I attempt to browse my website, I get the following error message: CS0016: Could not write to output file 'c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files\www\xxx\yyy\zzz\a.b.dll' - 'The directory name is invalid' In Detail I have two web-sites on my Development PC (fictitious names): Web2 - this is written in ASP.NET using .NET 3.5 and runs in an AppPool that addresses the v2.0 .NET framework and runs in an Integrated mode. This is developed compiler error message cs0016 access denied using Visual Studio 2010 Web4 - this is written in ASP.NET using .NET 4.5 and runs in an AppPool that addresses the v4.0 .NET framework and runs in an Integrated mode. This is developed using Visual Studio 2012. Recently, I've been working in VS2012 on Web4 almost constantly and it works fine, however the other day I tried to run Web2 and got the exception displayed above. Bizarrely, part of the path (which I replaced above with letters "zzz") appear to point to a German language path, since it's "\de-DE\" - I'm not operating in German, so I've no idea where it got this idea from. One thing that is almost certainly un-related, but for some unknown reason I feel it's important to mention: I was using the Performance Analysis tool in Visual Studio 2012 the day before this problem first appeared and I don't know if this might have made some changes to my computer...?? Attempted fixes There are quite a few threads regarding this on the internet; some threads end in success where file access permissions have been altered whilst others finish on a somewhat desperate sounding note... I have gone through the process of comparing the NTFS permissions on all relevant sounding directories on my PC with that of a colleagues

file 'c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\....' message? You are at the right place. 2011-03-05 10:18 Tugberk Ugurlu .Net ASP.Net Deployment Tips IIS This week I went nuts over my local IIS. I have never swore to a machine that much in my whole life. I http://www.tugberkugurlu.com/archive/local-iis-7-0-cs0016--could-not-write-to-output-file-microsoft-net-framework-v4-0-30319-temporary-asp-net-files am sure of that! The problem is not that big and probably not worth to be http://www.sunblognuke.com/blog/dnn-runs-failure-with-cs0016 written on a blog post I am going to write it anyway because the solution was hard to find on the internet. Maybe this post will help you to fix the problem as I did and you will stop swearing to you machine as I did Let’s get to the point. I am no IIS guy! Seriously! The so called Cassini (the tiny could not web server which pops up when you run a web application on Visual Studio) was so enough for me for over 2 years. But no more enough. I figured that IIS can not be ignored by me anymore. How can I get that point? That’s not the issue here. The issue is that I tried to run an ASP.NET MVC 3.0 application under my local IIS 7.0 and got a very annoying error. Which is; Compiler Error Message: CS0016: Could could not write not write to output file 'c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Temporary ASP.NET Files\root\62d43c41\27d749ca\App_Code.7lodcznm.dll' – 'Access denied.' Temporary ASP.NET Files folder (c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Temporary ASP.NET Files) was the the one with the problem here. First, I thought that the problem is related to security permissions on the folder and I was right. I right clicked on the Temporary ASP.NET Files folder and go to the security tab. I noticed that there is user called IIS_IUSRS and that guy has the full control permission. But apparently that was not enough. The Temporary ASP.NET Files and C:\Windows\temp folders should have IIS_WPG and NETWORK SERVICE users with the full control permission. I have no idea why C:\Windows\temp folder needs that but I have no effort left to try to find that. Instead, I am writing a blog post about the problem. Maybe latter I will get to that and figure it out, too Once you applied those setting, restart your IIS and try to run your application again. The error should be gone by now. I suffered a lot by trying to find the right method for the problem and I hope you didn’t have to go through hell over this. Hope this helps Tweet Comments by daniel on Thursday, Mar 24 2011 03:19:38 +02:00 thank you so much. same with .net 2.0 iis 7.5 problem solved by Tugberk on Thursday, Mar 24 2011 10:56:33 +02:00 @daniel this problem took nearly half of my day. hope that you make

DNN Runs Failure with CS0016: Could not write to output file Filed in Tips & Tricks, DotNetNuke By Baldwin on October 12th, 2014 Today I just got a very annoying error with one DNN7 fresh installation in Windows 7 x64 machine. Which is; Compiler Error Message: CS0016: Could not write to output file 'c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Temporary ASP.NET Files\DNN7\62d43c41\27d749ca\xx_xxx.dll' – 'Access denied.' Here is solution which I have found. What you have to do is just assign the following folders with IIS_IUSRS and NETWORK SERVICE users with the full control permission: 1) C:\Windows\temp 2) c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Temporary ASP.NET Files Once you applied those setting, restart your IIS and try to run your application again. The error should be gone by now. Hope that this post will help you to fix the problem as I did and if you have found any other fix's please leave feedback and I will post them up. ---------------------------------------------------------- Resources links: Local IIS 7.0 - CS0016: Could not write to output file / Microsoft.Net > Framework > v4.0.30319 > Temporary ASP.NET Files “CS0016: Could not write to output file” error when starting an app in IIS 7 TrackbackPrintPermalinkTrackback URL: DNN7, DNN Bugs Do you like this post? 0 Thumbs Up, 0 Thumbs Down 0 Share this post « Ultimate DNN7 Blogging Module Integrated GalleryPlus with built-in search » Possibly related posts:DNN Runs Failure with CS0016: Could not write to output fileIntegrating SunBlogNuke to Active Social User Profile TabsEnhance DNN Article Footers with Author ProfilesMore screenshots for third-party dnn blog module - SunBlogNukeUpg
