So Yes, I dont have that directory on my server. I only have a directory could not find a part of the path c# file upload up to here. 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80\ So, I go and create Those directories. The weird thing is, is that if I create a folder with the name "SitePages" in the above directory, my site doesn't even want to start up? Delete it and it works again. (Image of error below) I need to create that directory to upload the file to my server, but I can't, since everything breaks. How will i fix this? asp.net directory runtime-error share|improve this question asked May 3 '13 at 11:25 Ruan 72521641 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted create a directory in root eg. 'Foldername' and try the following DirectoryInfo dir = new DirectoryInfo(HttpContext.Server.MapPath("~/Foldername/")); if (!dir.Exists) { dir.Create(); } // this makes sure that directory has been created // do other stuff share|improve this answer answered May 3 '13 at 11:31 Ankush Jain 1,21111021 worked, thanks. Sep 04, 2008 05:45 PM|NotChad|LINK I'm working with a solution with http://stackoverflow.com/questions/16357839/server-mappath-could-not-find-a-part-of-the-path-in-asp-net many projects, there is some cross sharing. I'm in VS2005/2.0 on Vista/iis7. My original issue came about when I tried to add a new asp:DropDownList control to a user control, to add some new functionality I saved the .ascx file, then went to the codebehind to work with the newly added control. The code behind couldn't recognize the newly placed drop down. I came to discover that the designer.cs file was not updating like it http://forums.asp.net/t/1315581.aspx?Project+Problem+ASP+NET+runtime+error+Could+not+find+a+part+of+the+path+ASP+NET+runtime+error+There+is+no+build+provider+registered+for+the+extension+designer+cs+not+updating should. I deleted the designer.cs file, then recreated it by right clicking on the .ascx file and choosing 'convert to web application', which I've heard forces regeneration of the designer.cs file. It failed to renerate, saying it can't recognize a custom tag prefix. makes sense at this point why the designer.cs file wasn't updating when the new dropdown was placed. So I made sure all everything was in place for the tag prefix to work, it's all there and works fine on OTHER projects (web applications projects) within the solution. Then I noticed the error being thrown on the very top line of the file, for example: <%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="WebForm1.aspx.cs" Inherits="blahblahNamespace.WebForm1" %> The error is "blah blah ASP.NET runtime error: Could not find a part of the path blah blah" pointing to a path that doesn't have or shouldn't have anything to do with this project. This error is on EVERY page/control/etc in the project. When I add a new form, it's on the brand new form also, thus seems to be a project specific issue. When I do a build, I get a new error on the prior existing page I was working on in the first place: "blah blah ASP.NET runtime error: There is no build provider registered for the extension ''. You can register one in the
another directory. When I open the new http://www.dreamincode.net/forums/topic/317882-c%23-could-not-find-part-of-file-path/ project and try to look at any .aspx page I got an error: ASP.NET Runtime Error: Could not could not fina a part of path. IF this is the case then do the following: 1. Open up the IIS administrator. 2. Right click on the project listed in Web Site tree. 3. Right click and could not find select properties option from the popup menu. 4. In the virtual directory tab, change the Local path to point to the new project base directory. 5. Close down everything and restart windows. (I tried to start and stop the web site instead of restarting, this did not work for me) . Posted 07 April 2013 - 09:52 AM Hi... I'm getting this error, and I need to know how to overcome it. So, what I'm trying to do is copy a file to a new location. It bugs out at the bottom of the code. CustomID = GetNewCustomID().ToString(); var oldId = Session["OldId"].ToString(); var oldPath = @"TempImg/Uploads/" + oldId + "/"; var newPath = @"TempImg/Uploads/" + CustomID + "/"; if (Directory.Exists(Server.MapPath(oldPath))) { DirectoryInfo directoryInfo = new DirectoryInfo(Server.MapPath(oldPath)); Directory.CreateDirectory(Server.MapPath(newPath)); FileInfo[] file = directoryInfo.GetFiles("*.*"); var oldFile = oldPath + file[0]; var newFile = newPath + file[0]; if (File.Exists(Server.MapPath(oldFile))) { File.Copy(oldFile, newFile, true); //THIS IS WHERE IT BUGS OUT } } Any thoughts? Posted 07 April 2013 - 11:11 AM First, building paths like that is horrible and leads to missing '/' or extra '/' all the time. You should look at System.IO.Path.Combine to make your paths. Next... Look closely at your paths at run-time. Basic debugging should let you see where the path you're providing is wonky. See FAQ 2 below. tlhIn`toq's FAQ list Learning to debug one's own code is an essential skill. Sadly, one that apparently few college courses teach. Silly if you ask me. Placing breakpoints and walking through the code line by line allows you to actually WATCH it execute. Visualizing what your code does will let you see why it behaves the way it does. It would be well worth your time to do the tutorials on FAQ 2. A couple hours learning this skill will save you hundreds of hours of confusion in one project alone.
