[ thread ] [ subject ] [ author ] Apparently, the configure script didn't find the kg-config program. Is it in your path ? Did you export PKG_CONFIG_PATH ? What does
Configure: Error: Mandatory Image Surface Backend Feature Could Not Be Enabled
the output of: pkg-config --cflags libpng12 does ? do you have a "libpng-config" warning: could not find libpng in the pkg-config search path program in your path ? another possibility is that Cairo might require a more recent version of libpng, but the
Libpng Pkg-config
configure script would complain with a human readable message then. It seems there is something fishy with your pkg-config installation. - David On Fri, 02 Feb 2007 15:07:35 -0500, "tj" <999alfred at comcast.net> install libpng said: > Thanks for the advice, but alas it didn't work. > With the folowing > > cairo-1.2.6$ echo $PKG_CONFIG > /usr/lib/pkgconfig > > cairo-1.2.6$ echo $PKG_CONFIG_PATH > /usr/lib/pkgconfig > > I still get the same error as below. > > The question is, why is it giving a "command not found error" ? > And the error line number is a blank line? > > tj > > David Turner wrote: > > >I believe you must define PKG_CONGIG_PATH, not PKG_CONFIG > > > >Once your configuration is ok, pkg-config --cflags libpng should dump something useful > > > >Hope this helps, > > > >- David > > > > > >On Thu, 01 Feb 2007 17:39:53 -0500, "tj" <999alfred at comcast.net> said: > > > > > >>When I try to configure cairo 1.2.6 I get this... > >> > >>$./configure > >>. > >>. > >>. > >>checking for cairo's PNG backend... > >>./configure: line 24784: --exists: command not found > >>./configure: line 24784: --exists: command not found > >>./configure: line 24784: --exists: command not found > >>configure: WARNING: Could not find libpng in the pkg-config search path > >>checking whether cairo's PNG backend could be enabled... no > >>configure: error: requested PNG backend could not be enabled > >> > >>My PKG_CONFIG is set correctly to > >>$ echo $PKG_CONFIG > >>/usr/lib/pkgconfig > >> > >>And: > >> > >>$ ls -l /usr/lib/pkgconfig/libpng* > >>lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 Feb 7 2004 > >>/usr/lib/pkgconfig/libpng.pc -> libpng12.pc > >>-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 232 Oct 13 2002 > >>/usr/lib/pkgconfig/libpng12.pc
the end of ./configure): checking for cairo's PNG functions feature... configure: WARNING: Could not find libpng in the pkg-config search path checking whether cairo's PNG functions feature could be enabled... no configure: error: recommended PNG functions feature could not be enabled The problem for me was that libpng ws already installed correctly, and thus the message itself just didn't make a lot of sense. After a fair amount of time I finally got around the problem by exporting the png related variable png_REQUIRES. export png_REQUIRES="libpng" Like this:Like Loading... Thank you very much! Reply zhou said May 26, 2010 at 14:57 May i know where(which file) do we add this? Reply Matthew Walker said May 27, 2010 at 09:02 If you are compiling Cairo from a bash command line as I https://mattgwwalker.wordpress.com/2010/01/07/cairo-configure-issues/ was, then just type the export command in before issuing the configure command. It's not necessary to modify any files. Thus you might type: export png_REQUIRES="libpng" ./configure make make install Hope that helps! Reply GP said March 24, 2011 at 15:43 Thanks…. This was tripping me up Reply gsaray101 said February 24, 2012 at 13:31 after doing export png_REQUIRES="libpng" I get this error: checking whether cairo's image surface backend feature could be enabled… no (requires pixman-1 >= 0.18.4 http://cairographics.org/releases/) I already have pixman installed. any ideas? Reply Sarah Barghout said May 9, 2012 at 05:52 Hello, I was wondering if you could help, I tried the export command but I still get the same error message, any idea what I can do to fix it? Thanks. Reply Matthew Walker said May 10, 2012 at 02:33 No, I'm sorry, I don't have any idea. Have you checked out what configure's log file has to say about the error? You may be able to deduce the issue by running the same test in a terminal (the test is detailed in the log file). Good luck!
