Could Not Attach To Oracle Instance Error = 233
- 8:40 am UTC Category: Database – Version: 8.1.6 Latest Followup You Asked Hi, I tried to use Orakill to kill a thread. But I am getting an error message "Orakill unable to attach to the instance err=2" OS is Windows 2000 Oracle Database Version is 8.1.6 I have used this tool to kill a thread on NT 4.0 server without any problem. Is there anything special that has to be done on Windows 2000? Sometime we run into a deadlock issue and Kill session would help us to release the resources. I have used Orakill and it was helpful. Unfortunately, I can't use this on the Windows 2000 / 8.1.6 server. Any help on this would be highly appreciated. thanks, Sundar. and we said... sounds like you typed in the SID name wrong. I'm using 8.1.6 on windows 2k and have not had this issue. check that the spelling of the sid is correct. The error reported here matches the same error we got when running the client. Looking for a more elegant solution than orakill February 23, 2004 - 9:43 pm UTC Reviewer: Matt from Australia Win2K SP 4; 9.2.0.4 Here is my problem: 1) Running a data load (a bulk insert) from sqlplus 2) The window is killed (using 'x' in corner of window) 3) Data Load is re-started and encounters ORA-54 4) Investigation reveals the previous session is still 'active' and has locks out on a few tables. Also showsql indicates an insert in in progress. 5) Carry out alter system kill... and session in now status 'KILLED' 6) Leave this for 1 hour to see if PMON will clean up - it does not. What are my options here? * I can bounce the DB - would rather not * I can use orakill - I can, but it makes me nervous (:o)) * I can enable dead client detection (DCD) Anything else? What is a "good
