Could Not Complete The Operation Due To Error 80020101 Javascript
I am running an ExtJS 4.1 application. It is running just fine in FireFox, but I get this error in Internet Explorer 8: Could not complete the operation due to error 80020101. I have found various possible fixes, but none seemed to fit my needs. How can I make the application work in IE8? javascript extjs extjs4.1 share|improve this question asked Jul 2 '12 at 13:59 Dragos 1,38672745 @RobW extjs could not complete the operation due to error 80020101 I do not know where the problem lies. My application is pretty heavy on JavaScript(mainly because of the ExtJS framework) and the errors in IE8 are not helping at all. I have no idea on how should I find the source of the problem. I am hoping that someone else has faced this issue too(or anything similar). –Dragos Jul 2 '12 at 14:05 Well, it can be narrowed down. 80020101 is an AJAX error, for example this: stackoverflow.com/a/10275316/1204258 –Andrew Leach Jul 2 '12 at 14:48 @AndrewLeach Thank you for the link! That was helpful: there was a comma after some ajax parameters, as suggested in that answer. Please write an answer so I can accept it(it wouldn't seem fair to write one myself, since it was your suggestion that helped). –Dragos Jul 3 '12 at 12:16 add a comment| 6 Answers 6 active oldest votes up vote 12 down vote accepted Error 80020101 is an AJAX error, so there are a number of potential issues to investigate. A useful starting point might be a prior SO question http://stackoverflow.com/a/10275316/1204258 which deals with trailing commas in object definitions. share|improve this answer answered Jul 3 '12 at 12:22 Andrew Leach 10.8k12240 add a comment| up vote 2 down vote I go
all of the travel fun and games of the few days, it was back to the real world with a bump. I had a pile of bugs to fix on various projects. Most were very simple to get through, but execscript could not complete the operation due to error 80020101 one has taken me several hours to track down so I thought it would be tinymce could not complete the operation due to error 80020101 useful to record the problem and my solution. In IdeaJam we use Mootools as I have mentioned many a time before. Mootools, could not complete the operation due to error 8070000c when executing Ajax requests does some very funky stuff to make the request as efficient as possible. One of those things, is that will detect the content type of the page you're requesting and try it's best http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11295207/could-not-complete-the-operation-due-to-error-80020101 to process it as it should, that is, if you request Javascript then it will try and execute it. Unfortunately if you're in IE, then it uses the following technique window.execScript(code) This is all well and good until there is an error in the Javascript it is evaluating (and it is very picky about syntax here). When there is an error you will get something like: Could not complete the operation due to http://mattwhite.me/blog/2010/4/21/tracking-down-error-80020101-in-internet-exploder.html error 80020101 There are a *lot* of websites out there where people have come across this problem and then tracked it down to a specific problem with their code so they assume that this error message means youshouldremove comment tags from your script, or there's a missing semi colon on the end of a line, or an array is incorrectly formed. All of these may well be true, but the error message just means "There is an error", you can read no more into it than that. Instead, you need to look very closely at whatever is being returned and evaluate it manually yourself to track down the issue. What was especially galling for me, is that my problem was entirely my own fault. I had set the content type of the page I was requesting using Ajax to be text/javascript when it actually it should have been text/html. So Mootools was trying to evaluate some "code" which could never possibly work. So my fix was simply to change the content type of my response page. The point is that your problem may be something entirely different, and you'd still get exactly the same error message from IE. Thanks for that Microsoft. Navigation ← Previous TicketNext Ticket → Opened 5 years ago Closed 4 years ago Last modified 4 years ago #11402 closed bug (fixed) evalScript function fails with error error 80020101 in IE Reported by: HearnMichael Owned by: jaubourg https://bugs.jquery.com/ticket/11402 Priority: low Milestone: 1.8 Component: ajax Version: 1.7.1 Keywords: Cc: Blocked by: Blocking: Description Line # 6433 is cleaning script text before calling globalEval but only cleans the opening "" tag. This causes error "Could not complete the operation due to error 80020101" in IE8 & 9 but works in other non IE browsers. http://jsfiddle.net/sdraU/3/ I would suggest cleaning both the opening and could not closing tag to eliminate the error. This is not a duplicate of 9221... the code change made from 9221 is causing this bug. 9221 only comments out the opening tag but IE throws an error if the opening tag is commented but the closing tag remains. Both the opening tag and the closing tag need to be commented. This is still an issue. comment:6 Changed 5 years ago by mikesherov Resolution duplicate deleted Status changed from closed to reopened oops. comment:7 Changed 4 years ago by dmethvin Component changed from unfiled to ajax Milestone changed from None to 1.8 Priority changed from undecided to low Status changed from reopened to open comment:8 Changed 4 years ago by jaubourg Owner set to jaubourg Status changed from open to assigned How is this related to ajax? IE syntax error, 80020101 and undefined array P: 67 kigoobe Well guys, I have tested a script that's working well in FF, however while testing with IE7, I am finding errors. That famous yellow warning icon at the left of our status bar. Basically, I am opening a new popup window using dhtmlgoodies modal message tool. It opens well in FF, however in IE, the yellow icon appears with a bunch of erros as soon as the new window opens up. The erros are - 1. Syntax error, line 3, character 6. 2. Could not complete the operation due to error 80020101, line 94, character 6 3. chocArray is undefined, line 71, character 1 Now here chocArray is an array I am defining in the page that opens. Strange is, when I call the page (the popup) directly using the browse, I don't see any of these errors, but when I call the page by clicking a link in the parent page, the erros come up. I could not see anything in line 3, where the first three lines in the page (popup) reads - Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
