Restart The Directory Instance To Finalize The Restore Process
Accidentally deleted edb.log Windows Server 2k3 R2 Windows Server >

Directory Services Question 0 Sign in to vote The C: drive on our Windows 2k3 R2 server could not initialize the jet engine system database not found has become almost entirely filled, leaving about 700mb of free space after unused programs were uninstalled (that partition totals 12GB). The C: and D: partitions are http://martijnwestera.blogspot.com/2013/01/stop-c00002e2-directory-services-could.html on the same physical hard drives. The D: drive had nothing but nothing but data (file storage, nothing installed, etc) or so I thought, so I moved all the data off to an external drive, deleted that partition, and went on to expand the C: partition. That physical drive was a simple disk, so https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/63db1a92-ce3c-4e65-9677-6bb00deee421/accidentally-deleted-edblog-windows-server-2k3-r2?forum=winserverDS after doing a bit of research, I converted it to a dynamic disc and rebooted as instructed. This is where things go bad. Upon restart, I get a message saying: "Security Accounts ManagerInitialization Failed because of the following error: Directory Service cannot start. Error Status: 0x00002e1. Please Click Ok to shutdown this system and reboot into Directory Services Restore Mode, check the event log for more detailed information." Ok fine, rebooted into DSRM and checked event log to find: event ID 455 category: Logging/recovery (Contents of description box are as follows) NTDS (404) NTDSA: Error -1811 (0xfffff8ed) occurred while opening logfile D:\NTDS\edb.log Apparently when I formatted the D partition, I killed that edb.log file and did not have a copy with which to restore from. I have the other files in the D:\NTDS foler, just not specifically edb.log My question is this: is there a way to generate a new edb.log, or is there another backup location where edb.log is

(This is a test lab) I have one domain with three sites, each site has a preferred bridge-head server for intersite replication. Yesterday, I performed A back-up of the system state data (so far so good). Today, an OU was deleted from one of the DCs. By the time I got around to it replication had occurred. I Restarted the DC in AD restore mode, performed a non-authoritative restore of the system state back-up I made yesterday. Then instead of restarting I opened the command prompt to perform an authoritative restore on the OU. Here is what I did: C:>ntdsutil ntdsutil:authoritative restore authoritative restore:restore subtree ou=temp,dc=dibias,dc=local The response I got was not good...... Opening DIT database..... could not initialize the jet engine: jet error -528 authoritative restore failed The next time I rebooted it told me Directory Services could not start and to restart in AD restore mode. So I did, the first thing I checked was event viewer. Error 528 please contact Microsoft support services for assistance Next I right clicked My computer and chose properties, only to find that the name of the Domain was *unknown* ? I killed my Active Directory :( Luckily I am in LAB mode :) sdibias
 Adbot 1337 Our Sponsors Neowin Treasury 1337 Advertising Place
