But it's the first time I've ever (attempted) to use any version of Photoshop. I will do as you say, but can't think how the preferences could be causing the problem. I have 1gb of RAM, so I'm not thinking that that's the problem. Chris M Law Guest Reply With Quote July 3rd,03:42 PM #4 Re: "Could not initialize Photoshop because of a program error." I've done a search for the exact error message, but no other solutions other than the ones you guys have suggested. I'm off to install the Adobe printer driver. Will report back! New XP SP2 machine, new CS install. Ran OK at first, then started giving me this error intermittently on startup. I think it hits right at the "Building TWAIN drivers" message, but it might be the one right after that. Anybody know what that one is? It goes by too quickly to see. I don't think it's TWAIN because I haven't installed a scanner or camera on this machine yet.Anyway, now it's up to giving me this error about 7 http://www.justskins.com/forums/could-not-initialize-photoshop-6374.html out of 8 times when I try to start. Then 1 out of 8 times or so, it starts OK. I have tried rebooting, deleting that doc prefs file, renaming the prefs files, renaming the entire prefs folder, and doing a complete reinstall of PSCS.Any ideas? Bad RAM module? It fails and gives the message "Could not initialise Photoshop because of a program error". All the other Adobe programs I have work fine (and were all part of the same CS5 suite). Also I created another user account and it opens up fine on there. I thought it may have been that I was running an outdated OS, but I've upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and it's still doing the same thing. I've searched all around the net for an answer but no one seems to have one. What information do I need to provide to be able to get any help with this? Many thanks in advance Oli Reply With Quote 09-21-2011,12:27 PM #2 iDad View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message View Activity Guru Join Date Jul 2009 Location right in front of you Posts 11,533 Post Thanks / Likes Thanks (Given) 29 Thanks
