She would get a message box"Make failed", and in the Message window:Could not load: tlink.exeOne of the reasons why this can happen is if BC5 is installed under"C:\Program Files". This can cause all sorts of problems. Instead justinstall it under C:\BC5.However, there is a second problem: The IDE tries to create a file namedC:\$$PIP$$.$$$ to communicate with tlink.exe, but non-privileged users arenot allowed to create files in C:\! Here's the solution:1. Create C:\$$PIP$$.$$$ from an Administrator account2. Open Properties|Security, select the Users group and click the [Advanced]button.3. Select the Users group again, click the [Edit] button4. Click "Full Control" in the "Allow" column and "Delete" in the "Deny"column.5. Keep clicking [OK] and [Yes] to close all dialogs. This ensures that all users can write to C:\$$PIP$$.$$$ and at the same timekeeps them from deleting it, because the permission to write to the filewould be lost if the file were deleted.BTW, you'll probably want to create a directory such as C:\PDEV (like"Program Development") for hosting your projects, because BC5 may haveproblems with path and file names that don't follow the old 8+3 convention. You can get BC5 to open in that directory by default by editingC:\WINDOWS\BCW5.INI.P.S. All this most likely applies to Windows 2000 as well.

I have Borland C++ 5.02 installed in a 32-bit Windows XP virtual machine, with a BC++ project residing in a folder shared with the host computer (mapped to drive letter H: in the VM). The project compiles successfully, but always fails the final step with this message: Could not load: tlink.exe borland-c++ share|improve this question asked Mar 10 at 0:47 Gordon Brandly 1469 add a http://stackoverflow.com/questions/35905567/borland-c-compilation-always-fails-with-could-not-load-tlink-exe comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote accepted My compiler is installed in the usual C:\BC5 location in the virtual machine, but it turns out that it can't handle project folders on paths that contain spaces in their names. So I copied the project from that shared H: drive to C:\BC5\[project] and voilà! it compiles and links with no problem. I've also copied the project folder to my virtual machine's root C:\ and that works as well. share|improve this answer answered Mar 10 at 0:47 Gordon Brandly 1469 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service. Jogy Delphi Developer Fri, 31 Jan 2003 03:00:00 GMT Re:Problem with tlink.exe I think. Hello, The problem is that you have installed BC++ in a path containng long filenames with spaces. tlink is a DOS executable, and cannot work with long filenames. The solution is to reinstall BC++ in another location, like C:\BC5 Jogy Quote"Borland C++"
