Aug 01, 2005 03:51 AM|aellis|LINK I have been developing an ASP.NET website in C# with Visual C# 2005 express on my laptop. It functions as expected with VWD's debug server and IIS which is set up locally, but when I transfer the files to an IIS site on another computer I get the following error. I've done some searching but haven't found the solution,I'd really appreciate any help on this ASAP. Regards, Alex Server Error in '/tracker' Application. If you are still using the IIS virtual http://stackoverflow.com/questions/54001/could-not-load-type-xxx-global directory make sure its pointed to the correct directory and also check the ASP.NET version it is set to, make sure it is set to ASP.NET 2.0. Clear out your bin/debug/obj all of them. Do a Clean solution and then a Build Solution. Check your project file in a text editor and make sure where its looking for the global file is correct, sometimes it doesnt change the directory. Remove the global from the solution and add it back after saving and closing. make sure all the script tags in the ASPX file point to the correct one after. You can try running the Convert to Web Application tool, that redoes all of the code and project files. IIS Express is using the wrong root directory (see answer in VS 2012 launching app based on wrong path) Make sure you close VS after you try them. Those are some things I know to try. Hope one of them works for you. share|improve this answer edited Nov 18 '14 at 20:25 josh poley 4,10511220 answered Sep 10 '08 at 13:25 pete blair 1,36711514 1 Did any of these work for you? –Rob Stevenson-Leggett Oct 22 '08 at 12:51 1 yeah i have used those over time and one of them would usually resolve the issue. –pete blair Oct 24 '08 at 18:28 1 Removing and re-adding Global.asax is what did the trick for me. –East of Nowhere Aug

P: n/a Rob T When I was using VS2003, I was able to compile my asp.net project locally on my machine and copy it to the production server and it would run just fine. I've now converted to VS2005. The project compiles & runs fine locally, but when I copy to the production machine, I get this error: Parser Error Message: Could not load type 'Global'. Source Error: Line 1: <%@ Application Codebehind="Global.asax.vb" Inherits="Global" %> Source File: D:\Inetpub\wwwroot\WiseERP\global.asax Line: 1 I thought perhaps I could change the Root Namespace to "WiseERP" (it was blank), but then I can't get the project to compile. In the aspx.designer.vb file It doesn't like Protected WithEvents HelpMain As Global.Help I thinks it should be Protected WithEvents HelpMain As Global.WiseERP.Help. I have about 500 pages on this site...and would like to avoid having to change each one...just to find out this really isn't my problems. Thanks for your help! Mar 19 '07 #1 Post Reply Share this Question 8 Replies P: n/a Mark Fitzpatrick You did mark the directory WiseERP as an application correct? If not, then the global.asax is looking for a dll in the wrong bin file. It will be looking for D:\inetpub\wwwroot\bin instead of the bin directory in the WiseERP since the wwwroot is the next application up in the heirarchy. Something else to keep in mind, if you use the Web Site project, it's not the same as the VS 2003 web project. The Web Site project does all compilation dynamically, which can lead to pages being compiled before others. The Web Application Project, which was available as an add-on to VS 2005 and is now part of VS 2005 SP 1, is more akin to the VS 2003 web project in that it compiles everything into a single dll. That could also avoid the error you are seeing if it's a matter of timing for the compilation. -- Hope this helps, Mark Fitzpatrick Former Microsoft FrontPage MVP 199?-2006 "Rob T"
