WHMCS said this: The could not authenticate error is returned directly from the mailserver and not WHMCS itself. If the credentials entered are known to be valid, we would recommend investigation by your server administrator as to smtp error could not authenticate gmail phpmailer why valid logins are being rejected. Changing to TLS may have produced the error you experienced if your mailserver is not configured for TLS.Click to expand... I would not be surprised since this this a new VPS setup if i missed something. How to i check to see ifi am set up for TLS? here is what i have done so far. I have checked the password, correct I have checked the mail server. Cpanel email config says it is vulcan.durangodaveshosting.com instead of mail.durangodaveshosting.com I am using port 465 8bit SMTP I did set SMTP debug to true in my config but nothing extra shows up in the error. as a test i did the following: changed the whmcs mail config to TLS (rather than SSL) and i got this. SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host. then i changed it to none and got SMTP Error: Could not authenticate. I am also using configserver firewall.. Thanks im sure its something simple i just have not found it yet. #1 durangod, Aug 15, 2014 cPanelMichael Forums Analyst Staff Member Joined: Apr 11, 2011 Messages: 29,194 Likes Received: 525 Trophy Points: 113 cPanel Access Level: Root Administrator Hello I recommend posting this to the WHMCS forums: WHMCS - Support Forums Thank you. • Effective Feedback with the "Like" Button • Knowledge Base • Documentation • cPanel University • Tren

I'm not wellsee the error "An Error occurred SMTP Error: could not authenticate" in your whmcs while sending a mail or an invoice. The issue could be caused by both firewall on the server and the settings at your WHMCS. Please follow the steps to resolve the issue. 1) Login to the server via SSH. 2) Open CSF and make sure ports 25,465 and 587 are in the allow list. 3) Make sure SMTP_port is set to 25. 4) Save and exit then restart the firewall. Now at the WHMCS end do the following: 5) Login to your WHMCS. 6) Go to General Settings. 7) Open the mail tab and change the SMTP port number to 25. 8) Also make sure that the SMTP host is mentioned as ‘localhost‘. 9) Save the changes. The issue should be resolved now, if it still persists, you may check whether the mail authentication details mentioned in the WHMCS has changed or not.
