File upload error. Could not move uploaded file. This does not happen on my internal DEV, only happens on my Production server so I'm assuming it's a permissions issue, just not sure what folder? Comments Comment #1 WiredEscape CreditAttribution: WiredEscape commented November 25, 2013 at 2:58am Check server /tmp folder permissions where files are to be saved. They should be 755. Drupal install sets 'sites/default' folder to 555. If the /tmp or /files folder is below that folder uploads are prevented. Posted by psilly on September 30, 2007 at 7:28pm Apologies in advance if i'm being too dumb here, new to drupal... I'm trying to post a story with attached image file - i get the following error message/warning when i attempt to upload my image: warning: move_uploaded_file() [function.move-uploaded-file]: SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid/gid is 32733/32733 is not allowed to access /tmp/tmp_u7PbFi owned by uid/gid 99/99 in /mounted-storage/home72a/sub003/sc41782-QAJM/www/drupal/includes/file.inc on line 240. the permissions on file & tmp directories are set to https://www.drupal.org/node/1949172 777, is this just a safe mode issue? do i need to turn it off, and if i do so, will that leave me at risk? I've searched around and can't find any information relating specifically to this issue, apologies if that's not the case. I'm using windows XP on the PC & dreamweaver 8 to manage my files. Very few hosts use it, mostly ISPs, and it has been removed from the upcoming PHP 6. http://php.net/features.safe-mode What this error message says is that Drupal, whose file owner is you, cannot access 'files' or '/tmp' whose owner is user apache. (Apparently Drupal created the 'files' directory as user apache). It is an ownership problem, no matter what the permissions. It forbids a script to write into a directory not owned by the script's owner. The "Temporary directory" should also be correctly set. Are these set to 755? –Sidney Gijzen Apr 13 '14 at 19:34 I did 755 then it didnt work, den i set it to 777 then also it was not working. –asalug Apr 17 '14 at 11:54 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote Had a same problem. The best way to fix it is to: Update the folder permissions on /sites/default to 777 Remove /sites/default/files folder Go to /admin/config/media/file-system and click save so drupal re-creates the files folder. Update the folder permissions back to 755 on /sites/default. On my server when website creates a file or folder, the owner is set to nobody.nobody and since I already had a lot of files in my /sites/default/files folder all I had to do is update the ownership and permissions: chown -R nobody.nobody ./sites/default/files chmod -R 755 ./sites/default/files Good luck! share|im

The error they get is (and I have now reproduced it - I changed site name to preserve privacy): warning: move_uploaded_file() [function.move-uploaded-file]: Unable to move '/tmp/phpwmxeOQ' to 'sites/domain.org/files/Leading_Indicators_5.pdf' in /home/isp/domain-domains/domain.org/includes/file.inc on line 629. File upload error. Could not move uploaded file. What can cause this? Permissions issue? Safe mode for PHP? Something else? I've not really found much in the way of searching that leads me to anything concrete. Is it just a problem with a module? Is there any way of fixing it with code? php file drupal share|improve this question edited Feb 20 '13 at 14:15 jantimon 17.2k1980140 asked Feb 20 '13 at 14:00 Andrew Alexander 2,988145199 Could be permissions. Also, see if 'sites/domain.org/files/Leading_Indicators_5.pdf' is a valid path. I guess it should be a relative path. –web-nomad Feb 20 '13 at 14:02 Permissions are set to 777 (at least for testing). /sites/domain.org/files is a valid path. –Andrew Alexander Feb 20 '13 at 14:04 ..but you are giving sites/domain.org/files... and not /sites/domain.org/files.... The starting slash. –web-nomad Feb 20 '13 at 14:04 Thought you might be commenting on that. Hrm, I'm not sure how to fix that in Drupal. –Andrew Alexander Feb 20 '13 at
