Answers 0 I have edit the registry and i have modify the values of common administrative tools in the "shell folders" of HKLM and HKCUWhy did you do that? The first thing to do in situations like could not access this is to take a verbose log of the install. That will tell you which component is causing the call to the unobtainable resource. Try that first and report back. I dont have log because the install fails in the first moment. The way you expressed it, it sounded like you had removed the entries from the actual registry. If these (and similar) entries are being captured, it sounds like you need to add to AS's exclusion list, i.e. the list of folders, files and registry entries which it ignores when capturing. IIRC, there is a set of ready-rolled exclusions on the Installsite.org web site. The msi is generated by 0 mistakes and 0 warnings. Agggg . Answered 06/11/2009 by: ch

(sic)when I try to upgrade Acrobat Reader I've tried all the fixes i.e. deleting registry refs to Office 8.0 and 9.0, checking User Shell Folders and Common Administrative Tools (as recommended by Microsoft) but none works. Also I've no idea what location ":." refers to. Apart from disabling Windows Installer (to stop it popping up randomly) I cannot update my Adobe Reader software. Any miracle workers out there? I've tried all of the MSoft recommendations. I tried to uninstall my current Reader version today (to replace with the latest version) but I can't even uninstall it - I get the same Error 1606.
