The Iphone Could Not Be Restored An Unknown Error Occurred 3014
The problem seems to occur because iTunes cannot communicate with Apple's update servers. You need to check your hosts file, and there is no entry for "gs.apple.com". Mac Quit iTunes Launch Terminal Enter the following command and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAc1TBSfuhg press Enter/Return. sudo nano /private/etc/hosts Enter the password you use to sign in to your computer when prompted, and press Enter/Return. Terminal will display the hosts file as seen below. If you see any entries for "gs.apple.com" then you need to either remove or comment the entry. Navigate to the "gs.apple.com" entry using the arrow keys, and add the # symbol and a space at the beginning of the "gs.apple.com" entry. Press Control-O to save the file. http://www.iphonehacks.com/2015/02/how-to-fix-error-3194-itunes-restore-update-iphone-ipad.html Press the Enter key when asked for the filename and Control-X to exit the editor. Restart your computer. Windows Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Search, type run, and then tap the Run icon. Or, if you are using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Search, type run, and then click the Run icon. Type %WinDir%\System32\Drivers\Etc in the Open box, and then tap or click OK. It should open the Etc folder. Double click on the Hosts file to edit it. If you see any entries for "gs.apple.com" then remove it and save the Hosts file. That's it, now try to restore your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch again, and you should ideally not get the Error 3194 error again. You hit the error because you may have used a jailbreaking tool like Redsn0w at some point of time, which added the entry to the Hosts file so that iTunes could connect to Cydia servers instead of Apple update servers. Temporarily Disable Firewall or Security Software If you don't have an entry in the host file for "gs.apple.com" and still getting Error 3194, then temporarily disable the firewall or anti-virus software on your computer, as it is quite possible that they're preventing iTunes from connecting to Apple servers.
you can fix it by temporarily blocking Apple's firmware signing services. Error 3194 seems to usually be triggered when unsigned or expired firmware is used, often during an iOS downgrade or upgrade, or even during some restores. If you experience http://osxdaily.com/2010/12/06/error-3194-fix-for-itunes/ the error on your iOS device, here's how you can quickly resolve it so that iTunes will function with the restore or iOS update as intended. This applies to all versions of iTunes on both Mac and Windows PC, here's how to resole the error. Fix Error 3194 The fix is the same regardless of what operating system you are using: Quit iTunes Locate your hosts file, in Mac OS X this is /etc/hosts and in Windows this is c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts Open the hosts file could not with Administrator privileges Add the following lines to the very bottom of the hosts file and save the change: 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com Connect your iPhone to the computer Launch iTunes Put the iPhone/iPad/iPod into DFU mode by turning the phone off and then holding down the sleep and power button for 10 seconds, then release the power button but hold onto the home button until iTunes tells you that the device is now in recover mode Use the iTunes Restore feature as usual with the iOS could not be device You may need to flush your DNS cache for the change to take effect, though usually just quitting and relaunching iTunes is sufficient to get the app to recognize the change. Once your iOS update is finished, go back to the hosts file and remove the "74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com" line again so that iTunes can properly update as usual. This is an essential step otherwise you may encounter future errors when trying to update or install iOS versions. Note that iTunes Error 3194 can also happen sometimes if the wrong firmware version is used, and you will see an error message like "This device isn't eligible for the requested build", which is why it's necessary to always use the appropriate firmware files for your device if you are performing manual updates. Or better yet, just let iTunes or iOS update itself without trying to use the firmware files manually. If you need them, you can get the latest versions of iPhone firmware, iPad firmware, and iPod touch firmware directly from Apple. Keep in mind that the signing window for downgrading iOS versions has shrank dramatically, and without a history of storing SHSH blobs there is no way to revert back to prior versions of iOS once that happens. In that case, no amount of tweaking hosts or adjusting IP's is going to make a difference to restore to older IPSW, and thus you would have to either keep the current iOS version or opt to upgrade to a newer version to escape th
