8 12:26:14 myserver sshd[29288]: [ID 800047 auth.error] error: Could not get shadow information for NOUSER It would look like a security incident with the "nouser" system account but not so to be. The error gets written to /var/adm/messages when a user tries to SSH to the server using a user account which doesn't exist on the system (a typo error can contribute) or on your NIS/NIS+ systems. So no panic!!!! Re: error: Could not get shadow information for NOUSER keep appearing in lo 807559 Jul 10, 2005 11:04 PM (in response to 807559) Interesting thread (It's nice to see a more active thread around here too :)). I also had the same problem shhmoo had and had to use /var/adm/messages file for it to work. Anyway, could not get this is a common issue here too. I can see people trying random common user names for quite a long time. I am now wondering, whether it is possible to limit login tries (from IP address say) to a certain number, and then disallow the IP to retry for a specified amount of time. Is this possible via sshd or perhaps within Solaris? Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 16. Re: error: Could not get shadow information for NOUSER keep appearing in lo 807559 Jul 12, 2005 2:13 PM (in response to 807559) OH, sshmoo and TanGU ,I met the same problem with you. But I did all that you said, it's no use. - Uncommented SyslogFacility AUTH and LogLevel INFO in the sshd_config file. - added entry "auth.debug /var/adm/messages" at the end of the /etc/syslog.conf file -reboot the sshd and close all boxes I can't see any address under the 'Could not get shadow information for NOUSER' Did I miss anything? please help me and give me a hint. Thank you very very much.Hi Selene, About the

Does this mean someone is trying to hack me over the ports transmission opened via uPnP or is this just something I should ignore.I was spooked enough when I saw it initially that I shut down transmission but it would be nice to start using it again as long as it is safe to do so.
