At the same time, when trying to start Scala I get: \Java\jdk1.6.0_25\bin\java.exe was unexpected could not find jvm.cfg sql developer at this time. The JVM you think you are running might not be the JVM you should be running. try running java -version to find out if it is 1.6.0_xx. –Raze May 17 '11 at 20:34 2 How is this related to Scala? –Rodney Gitzel May 17 '11 at 20:42 2 I can't even do java -version without getting the message! –Highland Mark May 17 '11 at 20:55 It's related to scala in that scala fails too. Both occurred at the same time. –Highland Mark May 17 '11 at 20:56 here is what i've found in google. know it was often asked for jre6 but every-time i look at them they either dont work or are saying stuff without telling us how to do them, so someone know how to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6036462/running-java-gives-error-could-not-open-c-program-files-java-jre6-lib-amd64 fix this ? I'm trying to watch video on my ps3 whit PlayStation Media Server and yesterday it worked but now it keep tellling me i got error. First it told me error opening registry key 'software/javasoft/java runtime environment' but i fixed it by adding the registration key manually (saw it on a forum so i tried) but now it give my this damn Error: could not open http://www.java-forums.org/java-jre/89480-error-could-not-open-c-program-files-java-jre7-lib-amd64-jvm-cfg.html 'C:/Program Files/Java/jre7/lib/amd64/jvm.cfg and its starting to get on my nerve. Anyone know a way to fix it ? And not in simlish but in English (or French), because some are not really helpful. That one is really nice, if i understood half of it. Might be a slightly different cause, but that second issue occurs for me in scala 2.9.0.1 on Win7 (x64), though scala-2.9.1.final has already resolved this issue mentioned here: \Java\jdk1.6.0_25\bin\java.exe was unexpected at this time. My %JAVA_HOME% set to a path like this: c:\program files(x86)\Java\jdk... Note the space and the parentheses. If you change line 24 in %SCALA_HOME%\bin\scala.bat from: if exist "%JAVA_HOME%\bin\java.exe" set _JAVACMD=%JAVA_HOME%\bin\java.exe to if exist "%JAVA_HOME%\bin\java.exe" set "_JAVACMD=%JAVA_HOME%\bin\java.exe" It works fine. Note the quotes around the set command parameters, this will properly enclose any spaces and 'special' characters (eg: spaces and parentheses) in the variable's value. weeks back I updated my laptop to Windows 10 but after trying for one day, I reverted back to Windows 8.1. Everything was alright until I open Eclipse, which was throwing "Error: could not open 'C:\Program Files\Java\jre8\lib\amd64\jvm.cfg', http://www.java67.com/2015/10/error-could-not-open-java-jmv-cfg-lib-eclipse.html as soon as I launch it. It was quite bizarre because everything was fine https://www.rune-server.org/runescape-development/rs2-server/help/284879-error-could-not-open-c-program-files-java-jre6-lib-amd64-jvm-cfg.html earlier. I suspect Java installation problem, so I went to command prompt and typed Java, only to find the same error there as well. You can see below, I am just trying to run the "java" command from MS-DOS window. Here "java" command is picked from PATH environment variable. $ java Error: could not open `C:\Program could not Files\Java\jre8\lib\amd64\jvm.cfg' Then I checked my environment variables, JAVA_HOME and PATH and they all refer to C:\Program Files\Java. So this bit frustrating. After some time, I found that the default installation also copied java.exe, javaw.exe and javaws.exe to C:\Windows\System32 (i.e. uninstall of JRE didn't go well). I just removed them and voila, the error was gone. That annoying error is no longer popping. Error: could not open 'C:\Java\jre7\lib\i386\jvm.cfg' - Solution could not open If you are facing the same problem i.e. getting the Error: could not open 'C:\Java\jre7\lib\i386\jvm.cfg',then check your System32 folder and remove java.exe, javaw.exe, and javaws.exe if they exist there. Here are the exact steps to solve could not open 'C:\Program Files\Java\jre8\lib\amd64\jvm.cfg' error: 1) Go to C:\Windows\System32 2) Search for Java in that folder 3) Remove java.exe, javaws.exe and javaw.exe from this folder 4) Open command prompt 5) Type Java it should work Mind you, your error could be little different than mine depending upon whether your laptop is 32-bit or 64-bit. For example, if you are using 32-bit JVM then you can get something like Error: could not open 'C:\Java\jre7\lib\i386\jvm.cfg'. That's all about how to fix this error: could not open 'C:\Program Files\Java\jre8\lib\amd64\jvm.cfg'in Windows 8 and Windows 10. I have got this with theEclipse, but you can also see this with any other Java application e.g. NetBeans or Minecraft.
