tantocibo » Mon Aug 05, 2013 5:33 pm I'm trying to set up my philips remote with lirc, but I get stuck when issuing 'irrecord -d /dev/lirc0 ~/lircd.conf'

to learn remote keys/generate the config file. I get this:Code: Select allirrecord: could mode2: could not get file information for /dev/lirc0 not get file information for /dev/lirc0
irrecord: default_init(): No such file or directory
irrecord: could not init hardware (lircd running

I'm following this guide: http://learn.adafruit.com/using-an-ir-remote-with-a-raspberry-pi-media-center/using-other-remotesThank you in advance. mode2: default_init(): Device or resource busy... Frustrating... The service is stopped! Posts: 79Joined: Wed Feb 06, 2013 1:33 pm by Dilligaf » Mon Aug 05, 2013 10:48 pm OK, starting from the beginning. Have you loaded lirc_rpi either by adding it to /etc/modules or modprobing it? I am assuming you'r using a gpio receiver, is this correct? I'm not sure about the tutorial you're using but I KNOW this one works http://forum.stmlabs.com/showthread.php?tid=5549 Posts: 283Joined: Wed May 23, 2012 6:48 pm by luipez » Wed Sep 23, 2015 9:20 am Ho lo stesso identico problema, ho fatto la configurazione dalla stessa guida, ma uso l'IR che vedete in questo kit:http://www.banggood.com/Electr
use my home-brew receiver and transmitter on the same serial port? Yes. The value of the resistor in the receiver

circuit is labeled as '4k7' Ohm. Is this 4.7 Ohm, 4.7 kOhm irrecord: could not get file information for /dev/lirc or what? 4k7 Ohm means 4700 Ohm. k is the abbreviation of kilo. Can I use a home-brew LIRC

receiver with a Serial to USB adapter? No, this won't work. But there is a project working on a dedicated USB transceiver or you can connect an IR receiver to https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=51909&p=399707 a FTDI based USB chip. Using an Irman with USB adapter should work though. I have a Hauppauge TV card. Can I use a different remote control with this TV card except the original Hauppauge remote control? The Hauppauge remote control uses the RC-5 protocol. You should be able to use any TV remote control that uses this protocol. Common brands that http://www.lirc.org/faq.html use this protocol are Philips and Marantz. A short description how to setup LIRC with an universal remote control was posted on the mailing list. How do the drivers for the home-brew receivers work? Do they use polling? No, the serial port driver is fully interrupt driven. On each edge of the IR signal the interrupt handler is called and the time since the last interrupt is calculated. As the parallel port only generates interrupts on the rising edge of the input signal, the parallel port driver uses polling with the help of the hardware timer until the signal becomes low again. As it is polling only for microseconds this has no noticeable effect on system performance. I would like to connect an LCD display and an home-brew IR receiver to the same serial port. Will this work? No, unless somebody writes a driver that merges the functionality of the kernel serial port driver and the lirc_serial driver. This is not trivial. I need a IR transmitter device to control my TV/VCR/Settop box. But I'd rather buy a device than solder

I put together a machine with a KWorld ATSC115 TV tuner card for HTPC uses. The card functions as a tuner perfectly. I've run into trouble getting the could not get remote control working, however. I have run into a few patches for older kernels, but they don't work applied to the current kernel, and I would rather not downgrade. YaST seems to recognize that there is an IR device present- when configuring my tuner card through "TV Cards," the last menu I see is "Infrared Control Configuration." I click on "Use IRC" with kernel module "ir-kbd-i2c." When I hit "Test" it goes to the IRC Test screen but throws an error "the testing application is not responding." It does this whether lircd is running or not. So, I go to the command line and try to manually configure the remote. I run mode2 and it returns: mode2: error opening /dev/lirc mode2: No such file or directory So I see what's running under root with ps -U root, and the lircd process seems to have died after I started it. Jump over to the system messages and I see: lircd-0.8.3[8311]: could not get file information for /dev/lirc lircd-0.8.3[8311]: default_init(): No such file or directory So I suppose my question is, why don't have have a /dev/lirc?
