popular error one receive when they attempt to restore database containing references of the linked server. The solution is to create a link server and restore database. Here is the quick script which can fix your error.EXEC sp_addlinkedserver @server='MyLinkedServer'
EXEC sp_addlinkedsrvlogin 'MyLinkedServer', 'false', NULL, 'MyUserName', 'MyPassword'
Well, that's it. Sometimes the solution is much simpler, even though the original problem looks complicated.Reference: Pinal Dave (http://blog.SQLAuthority.com) Tags: SQL Error Messages324Related Articles SQL SERVER Installation - FeatureUpgradeMatrixCheck (SQL Server 2016 Feature Upgrade) setup rule failed July 25, 2016Pinal Dave SQL SERVER - DQS Error - Cannot connect to server - A .NET Framework error occurred during execution September 3, 2012Pinal Dave SQL SERVER - FIX : Error : 3702 Cannot drop database because it is currently in use. remote query to an Oracle server remove linked server using an OPENQUERY that makes reference to a linked server, but the developer received the following error http://blog.sqlauthority.com/2014/08/26/sql-server-fix-error-7202-could-not-find-server-in-sys-servers-verify-that-the-correct-server-name-was-specified/ when he executed the OPENQUERY: Error: 7202, Severity: 11, State: 2 Could not find server 'XXXX' in sys.servers. Verify that the correct server name was specified. If necessary, execute the stored procedure sp_addlinkedserver to http://www.sqlcoffee.com/Troubleshooting134.htm add the server to sys.servers. Cause The linked server existed on the SQL Server instance of the production environment but didn't exist on the SQL Server instance assigned to the test environment. Solution The solution was to configure the Oracle client on the SQL Server instance of the test environment to be able to connect to the Oracle database server, then configure an ODBC data source, and finally use the ODBC DSN to create the linked server with the same name used in the production environment. .Send mail to webmaster@sqlcoffee.com with questions or comments about this web site.

All of them work fine but one service calling a stored procedure gives me following error: Could not find server 'dbo' in sys.servers. Verify that the correct server name was specified. If necessary, execute could not find the stored procedure sp_addlinkedserver to add the server to sys.servers. I have not idea why all the other stored procedures work fine and this one not... (or two) in the mapping - i.e. it is trying to find server.database.schema.object. Check your mapping for stray dots / dubious entries. share|improve this answer answered Mar 20 '09 at 10:52 Marc Gravell♦ 630k14617592231 If you have table names that contain periods, you'll also want to check that the name is enclosed in brackets, e.g., dbo.[SubSchema.Table] instead of dbo.SubSchema.Table. –tvanfosson Mar 20 '09 at 10:55 Thx, apparently some underscores were replaced by dots... no clue as why this happened. Thx. –Lieven Cardoen Mar 20 '09 at 13:02 Thank you very much ! –Agent0

Avoid using SNAC in new development work, and plan to modify applications that currently use it. The Microsoft ODBC Driver for SQL Server provides native connectivity from Windows to Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Azure SQL Database. SQLSTATE provides detailed information about the cause of a warning or error. For errors that occur in the data source detected and returned by SQL Server, the SQL Server Native Client ODBC driver maps the returned native error number to the appropriate SQLSTATE. If a native error number does not have an ODBC error code to map to, the SQL Server Native Client ODBC driver returns SQLSTATE 42000 ("syntax error or access violation"). For errors that are detected by the driver, the SQL Server Native Client ODBC driver generates the appropriate SQLSTATE.For more information about the state error
