a connect descriptor using one of the naming methods configured. For example, if the type of connect identifier used was a net service name then the net service name could not be found in a naming method repository, or the repository could not be located or reached. Action: - If you are using local naming (TNSNAMES.ORA file): - Make sure that "TNSNAMES" is listed as one of the values of the NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH error while trying to retrieve text for error ora-12154 parameter in the Oracle Net profile (SQLNET.ORA) - Verify that a TNSNAMES.ORA file exists and is in the proper directory and is accessible. - Check that the net service name used as the connect identifier exists in the TNSNAMES.ORA file. - Make sure there are no syntax errors anywhere in the TNSNAMES.ORA file. Look for unmatched parentheses or stray characters. Errors in a TNSNAMES.ORA file may make it unusable. - If you are using directory naming: - Verify that "LDAP" is listed as one of the values of the NAMES.DIRETORY_PATH parameter in the Oracle Net profile (SQLNET.ORA). - Verify that the LDAP directory server is up and that it is accessible. - Verify that the net service name or database name used as the connect identifier is configured in the directory. - Verify that the default context being used is correct by specifying a fully qualified net service name or a full LDAP DN as the connect identifier - If you are using easy connect naming: - Verify that "EZCONNECT" is listed as one of the values of the NAMES.DIRETORY_PATH parameter in the Oracle Net profile (SQLNET.ORA). - Make sure the host, port and service name specified are correct. - Try enclosing the connect identifier in quote marks. Background : The Oracle client version 10g was installed (at c:/oracle) to connect to a database residing in other country. So we can just connect to it and have limited access to it. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7252286/ora-12154-tnscould-not-resolve-the-connect-identifier-specified Path => c:/oracle/ora_client/network/admin/listener.ora So to work as admin I installed 10g server at the same location c:/oracle on windows. I can now work as server. Path => c:/oracle/product/db_1/network/admin/listener.ora But the issue arises when I try to connect with my application installed to setup connection as a client (to server residing in other country), it fails and throws an error ORA-12154. So, do I have to uninstall my server version (just in case the confusion might have arrived due to the presence of two Oracle databases)? How can I fix it? What has been the probable cause for it? Please advise! oracle oracle10g database-connection ora-12154 share|improve this question edited Oct 30 '13 at 16:18 RustyTheBoyRobot 4,16211649 asked Aug 31 '11 at 3:33 ErAB 3003723 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 5 down vote accepted When you installed the server version it updated the environment variables to point to the server installation and not the client installation. The definition of TNS aliases is done in tnsnames.ora and no the listener.ora. So you would have to copy the already existing entries from c:/oracle/ora_client/network/admin/tnsnames.ora to c:/oracle/product/db_1/network/admin/tnsnames.ora. Be car
resolve the connect identifier specified” ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ SnehadeepJanuary 26, 201010 Share 0 0 When you try to develop an SSIS package in x64 Environment in BIDS that connects to a Oracle Database, you will invariably run into https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/dataaccesstechnologies/2010/01/26/connectivity-issue-with-oracle-in-x64-environment-ora-12154-tnscould-not-resolve-the-connect-identifier-specified/ connectivity issues if the installed Oracle Client tools version is 10.2.0.1 (x86). You will obviously need to install the 32-BIT version of Oracle Client to communicate with BIDS which is a 32-BIT application!
