Adobe File Damaged And Could Not Be Repaired
by bryanbear File is damaged or cannot be repaired (Adam_D._Silver) Mar 31, 2008 3:09 PM I have Adobe Reader on my Vista OS. When I try to open a PDF file, I either get a message that states I must exit Adobe and when I click "OK," the file opens. However, on occasion, I'll get the following can't open pdf files error message in which I cannot open the file and a blank Adobe window opens: "file is damaged or cannot be repaired." Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Any solutions? Thanks. 117978Views Tags: none (add) This content has been marked as final. Show 13 replies 1. Re: File is damaged or cannot be repaired (William_G_Schneider) Apr 8, 2008 2:19 PM (in response to (Adam_D._Silver)) I had the same problem with Adobe Reader 7, with Vista OS. I then downloaded Adobe Reader 8 and tried the open the file again, and got the same error. I then noticed that the file size was 0. Finally, I downloaded the PDF file from the website again, and then was able to open the PDF file with Adobe Reader 8. I had the same problem with a 2nd file. I repeated the above steps: downloaded the file again, and opened with Adobe Reader 8, and was able to read it. Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 2. Re: File is damaged or cannot b

Solution: To open this type of document, enter the password when https://forums.adobe.com/thread/393580 prompted. If the PDF creator has not shared the password with you, you cannot open the PDF. Suspicious PDFs Issue: Reader and Acrobat block PDFs that do not conform to certain industry-specific PDF standards. For example, Reader and Acrobat block PDFs that can allow potentially harmful content to load, or PDFs created with bad syntax (set of rules for programming language). Solution: Be cautious. Non-compliant PDFs Issue: PDFs created from non-Adobe products don't always comply with the complete PDF specification, and therefore do not open in Reader or Acrobat. In addition, earlier versions of Reader or Acrobat are not as strict as newer versions in their compliance to PDF standards. So even though you could open a particular PDF in an older version of the app, you may not be able to open it in the latest version. Solution: If you trust the creator of the PDF and its origin, consider reverting to an earlier version of Reader or Acrobat to open the PDF. For Reader, see Reader older versions. You can revert to an older version of Acrobat if you have a serial number for that version. For installers, go toAcrobat 8 and 9orAcrobat XI and X.
