util; I get in PG 9.2: $ create extension util; FEHLER: Syntaxfehler bei »« ZEILE 1: create extension util; and in PG 9.1 : CREATE EXTENSION util; ERROR: syntax error at or near "create" LINE 1: CREATE EXTENSION util; I have an util--1.0.sql , and even when this file is empty I get the error. my util.control looks like this: comment ='Hilfsfunktionen für Updateskripte' default_version = '1.0' schema=system Any hints ? Rolf postgresql share|improve this question asked Aug 7 '13 postgis windows at 8:54 user1423449 2112 1 Hrm. I do not get that error. You don't by chance have a CREATE EXTENSION statement in util--1.0.sql, do you? –theory Aug 7 '13 at 17:57 No, the error also appears, when util--1.0.sql is an empty file ! –user1423449 Aug 7 '13 at 21:31 Weird. Are both your server and your client actually 9.1 or 9.2? What's the output of psql --version and of psql -c 'SELECT version()'? –theory Aug 13 '13 at 22:27 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 7 down vote I'm pretty sure that the server you're connecting to is neither 9.1 nor 9.2. Connect to it and run SELECT version(); to confirm. share|improve this answer answered Aug 13 '13 at 22:28 theory 4,61763082 Good guess. This was exactly my problem. –bjmc May 27 '14 at 18:31 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service. We haven't tested it. Is there a patch available to fix this? I keep getting could not open this when running heroku rake db:migrate. PG::Error: ERROR: syntax error at or near "extension" LINE 1: create extension unaccent Thanks nertzy commented Apr 29, 2012 Yeah I don't think Heroku allows you to supply your own compiled PostgreSQL contrib packages for security reasons. And the CREATE EXTENSION syntax is new to PostgreSQL 9.1. Heroku is working on a shared PostgreSQL 9.1 solution but I'm not sure how far along it is. https://addons.heroku.com/heroku-shared-postgresql If stripping accents is an important concern, you could add an additional column to your model (called something like content or search_content) and have a before_validate hook on your model that copies over the appropriate text there and strips accents in the Ruby layer. The disadvantage is that by caching the unaccented version in another column, you run the risk of the search_content going out-of-sync with the rest of the columns. For example, if you use update_attribute or another method that updates without calling callbacks. Sign up for free to join this conversation on GitHub. Already have an account?
