Unanswered question This question has not been answered yet. We've had the following error on our server twice already on our x3500 (model e7u): "Memory retention failure, unflushed cache lost". The first time it happened we were running bios build 15421 on the serverraid. After updating to 15429 and running for a couple of days, the server hung while starting vmware esxi 4. On restarting, the error appeared again. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Thanks, Dale Log in to reply. This is the accepted answer. Dear Dale, first of all server x3500 is not supported for VMware ESX4i. Use only supported OS from compatibility list: VMware OS and OS Extension Information http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/nos/vmwareold.html BTW, where you see error message? Could you provide DSA log. Regards, Alexander Novikov Russia, Moscow Log in to reply. The error message occurs just after the RAID BIOS boots at which point the server hangs there. On entering the bios utility I get a message telling me that there has been a change in the system configuration. I've had this error happen several times yesterday. The server ran for 2 months before we had any problems. Last week I turned off write caching at the raid level and the server ran for 5 days without any incidents. Yesterday I turned back on write caching and experienced several crashes. I'm starting to suspect that raid contr

Join Now My 18 month old IBM System x3400 server appears to have a RAID controller or battery problem, as indicated by the message: "!!!CRITICAL ERROR:Memory retention failure, unflushed cache lost!!!" Adaptec RAID BIOS V5.2-0 [Build 15412] The way I am reading IBM, it looks like this might be fixed with BIOS 15414. http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/docdisplay?brand=5000008&lndocid=MIGR-5073646
However, the server won't let me change Boot order (Press F12, message says it https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=397910 is taking me to boot seq, but then proceeds until above message.) Also won't let me go into RAID setup (again, press key, get message, but proceeds until error message) My two questions are: 1) Anybody want to confirm that I am heading in the right direction? 2) How to get this beast to boot from CD? Last resort to boot to a CDROM would be to crack open the case, pull the raid controller from the slot - change your BIOS boot order preference - then re-insert it and see if that gets you to a CDROM based boot... Good luck! 0 Jalapeno OP Bill F Sep 23, 2010 at 10:45 UTC Pulling the RAID card give a server error and no POST, no nothing. IBM wants $2600 to troubleshoot onsite for 3 hours . . . yeah, right. Working with CDW to see if they can get their IBM contacts involved. Side note: Kudos to CDW tech support, who spent a good amount of time with me. Pretty much covered the same ground I had covered, by looking at IBM site, but good to have someone else looking over your shoulder making sure I didn't miss anythis critical error on our IBM Server using ServeRAID-8K.The Server rebooted and since this server was hosting our VM, several of our VM was disconnected. Power-cycling didn't help. Bu thanks God there http://linuxtoolkit.blogspot.com/2011/01/memory-retention-failure-unflushed-cach.html is onecool writeup by a system administration that encounter the same problem. His descriptionof the problem of the ServeRAID-8K and how he tried to fix it isnicely documented. Tuesday Outage: It's RAID-tastic! To resolve the issues, https://www.helpowl.com/q/IBM/x3650/Troubleshooting/critical-error-memory-retention-failure/162359 we just update the RAID-8K firmware.See IBM ServeRAID-8i, 8k, 8k-l and 8s BIOS and firmware update CD v5.2.0 (Build 16002) - IBM BladeCenter and System x After upgrading the firmware, the problem was fixed!
