Re: Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE server Test Screen Name Aug 17, 2012 12:29 AM (in response to iepias) Do you have something called "Symantec Endpoint Security". I just did a search and found some mentions that this stops stuff from working. Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 2. Re: Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE server iepias Aug 21, 2012 2:32 AM (in response to Test Screen Name) No, I didn't. Finally I uninstalled and went back to Acrobat Pro 9.0.0 and it worked fine. So I suspect that the problem is due to some problem in version updates. Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 3. server Hello:I'm a Acrobat XI Pro user on a windows 8.1 system. I recently added acrobat dc failed to connect to a dde server Acrobat XI reader (on 9/6). Last night I received an update notification which I applied (I believe it as for reader). Since the acrobat failed to send a dde command windows 7 update my Adobe reader would lock up and stop processing, to the extent I was unable to kill the program via task manager. Opening a document in Acrobat Pro resulted in the same issue. One of the open https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1050902 documents eventually died, then displayed the following error:Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE server.I was also unable to reboot. Reboot process apparently was unable to free the running Acrobat programs. I was able to successfully stop the program by powering off and back on the machine, but got the same errors when trying to open a document with either reader or acrobat pro after rebooting. Finally I restored system to restore point created just before https://answers.acrobatusers.com/Acrobat-failed-to-connect-to-a-DDE-server-q211263.aspx the last night's Acrobat update (which reapplied some windows updates I had done last night as well, after the restore). When I received the update notification again, I refused to allow it to execute, then uninstalled Adobe Reader. Things appear stable now.Are there any known problems running Acrobat Reader and Acrobat Pro together (Version 11)?Note that I did create a dump file for one of locked up Acrobat tasks before the restore.Thanks. brad erenberger 4 Answers Voted Best Answer Edit Answer (for another -18 minute) Try running the Repair command from under the Help menu to see if it corrects the problem. By Lori Kassuba Edit Answer (for another -7 minute) As I said, I've already cleared it by restoring system to point prior to installing update from last night. But if I run into it again, is there a way I can run this function via another means? Since Acrobat hangs (both reader and Pro), I will be unable to access the repair function through help. Thanks! brad erenberger Edit Answer (for another -32 minute) You can also run the Repair command from the Windows Control panel. the following error "Fatal Error: Acrobat Failed to connect to a DDE server" Cases: 1. I think I may have found the root cause of this issue (on my system at least). I have been running an app called PhraseExpress in the background and whenever it is running , I encounter the problem but if I turn off this app and reboot, the problem disappears and I have not seen it since. 2. I had the same problem and struggled with it also. I finally solved my problem by uninstalling reader 9.1, air, acrobat.com and THEN after a restart, installing a lite version of reader 9.1 3. We upgrade to Sophos Anti-virus as well. It looks like things are pointing towards Sophos. Our Cisco VPN clients are having issues connecting back into the office after the upgrade to Sophos. 4. I installed LOGMEIN today and started getting the Fatal Errors:Acrobat failed to connect a DDE server. So, it is not just the Sophos or whatever the previous common denominator seemed to be. 5. Generally this error comes from an anti-virus program blocking the software from connecting. Check McAfee for any type of Software blocks or firewall issues. If that doesn't work then uninstall and reinstall the program and see if McAfee then pops up with a message asking you for permission to let it access the internet. 7. Removing the checkmark beside "USE DDE" in the File Types section of Windows Explorer (In Windows Explorer, Click on Tools=>Folder Options=>File Types=> PDF=>Advanced=> Open=> Change=> Use DDE) Post your questions, comments, feedbacks and suggestions Contact a consultant Related Topics This web is provided "AS IS" with no warranties.
