Re: Acrobat failed to connect to DDE Server dave_m_k May 9, 2011 2:53 PM (in response to CMeisinger) Good acrobat failed to send a dde command windows 7 day Chris,I'm not sure if you're having diffuculty w/ Acrobat or w/ Reader. Regardless, this issue is most commonly related to file associations. As the user to do the following:Locate a PDF on the system via Search (any PDF will do)Hold down the Shift key and right-click the PDF file > Select 'Open with..'Select either Acrobat or Adobe Reader (depending on which application is actually installed)Check the box at the bottom of the dialog box that says 'Always open with..'If the issue persists after trying this, repair Acrobat or Reader. This can be done via the Help > Repair menu option.Regards,DavidAcrobat Community ManagerAdobe Systems 1 person found this helpful Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 2. Re: Acrobat failed to connect to DDE Server CMeisinger May 10, 2011 8:26 AM (in response to dave_m_k) Thanks David,I did check the file associations and did a repair and uninstall/re-install and nothing worked but it turned out to be an issue with turning on a security policy in Symantec Endpoint that was causing Adobe to not open so I had to remove that policy in order for Adobe to work again. Thanks,Chris 1 person found this helpful Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 3. When dde server wiki I try to open Acrobat, I get this error:Fatal Error: Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE serverHow do I fix this? I'm running Windows 8.Thanks! Dusanka Vos 1 Answer Edit Answer https://forums.adobe.com/thread/847438 (for another -37 minute) First, go to Help -> Check for Updates... If the problem persists, try Help -> Repair Adobe Reader Installation The last resource would be uninstall the Adobe Reader XI, run Acrobat Cleaner (get it from http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html), and reinstall it. While most installs, uninstalls, updates, and repair operations happen without incident, there are cases where a user may not be able https://answers.acrobatusers.com/Fatal-Error-Acrobat-failed-connect-DDE-server-q115480.aspx to complete such tasks due to some registry or file conflict on the machine. This is particularly problematic when permissions set on registry entries or files prevent the successful installation of new installs and/or updates. The Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool is designed to fix such issues by cleaning up corrupted installations, including removing or fixing corrupted files, removing or changing permissions registry entries, etc. The tool provides options for removing problematic Acrobat items only while leaving Reader untouched and vice versa.
