printer. I have recently tried to change the printer cartridges and have an error code of 50c. I have looked online for solutions and when I follow the instructions it still doesn't work. I have tried everything to print a test page but this error continues to appear on the top window of the printer. My ink cartridges are full and I have cleaned the printer multiple times, I have also reinserted dell a940 manual the cartridges according to the instructions, I have used new original Dell cartridges and refilled, and I also reinstalled the printer’s driver and it still does not work. Posted by RockStār-Rick K on 7 Mar 2010 21:14 gsmartinf, Are you using Dell Series 2 ink cartridges? Did you try to refill these cartridges? Unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer. Wait 60 seconds, then plug everything back in. This will reset any error messages the printer has in memory. Turn the power on. Open the printer and take out the Dell Series 2 black ink cartridge and reseat it. Do the same for the Dell Series 2 color ink cartridge. Close the printer and it will try to print an alignment page. Any error messages? Dell Series 2 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. It was working fine the last time I used it (2 days ago), but now it won't work. It dell a940 driver windows 7 turns on fine, but when I try to print something I get a "Cartridge Error: 50C" message. It tells me to refer to the owner's manual, which I did. A copy of the manual can be found http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3528/t/19326110 here: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/a940/a940en1.pdf The error basically seems to mean that one or both of the cartridges is defective. It had me take out one cartridge and see if the error happens again. I had both cartridges in and I got the error message. I took out the colour one and the error message went away. I put the colour one back in and I got the error message again. So it seems that the colour ink cartridge https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-printer-error.592935/ is defective!?! Of course, my stupid printer won't let me print a black-and-white document while the colour cartridge is out of it's socket, but if it's in, I get the error message, so either way I can't get anything to print right now. I'd hate to spend $40 on a new cartridge while my current one has more than half-full still. But the instructions seem to state that the cartridge is short-circuited or something and must be replaced. What's up. 8dalejr.fan, Jul 7, 2007 #1 Sponsor frankjohn Joined: Nov 20, 2005 Messages: 2,798 Might want to do a maint. on printer if you havent done 1 latley?[worth doing even though you might have to change cartridge frankjohn, Jul 7, 2007 #2 8dalejr.fan Thread Starter Joined: Nov 20, 2005 Messages: 1,895 Printer maintenance? You should only use Dell Series 2 cartridges in this printer. These are only available from either Walmart, Staples or online at Dell. The cartridges contain a fusible link that's used to detect when the ink runs out as a part of the normal operation of the printer. Once the link is blown it cannot be reset. These links are occationally defective out of the box but mostly in aftermarket and/or refilled cartridges and that will cause this error. If the printer is defective the link can also be blown by mistake and that makes the cartridge useless. Best to ONLY use official Dell cartridges. The black or photo cartridge will be on the left and the color cartridge will be on the right. The recommended process for verifying the issue and clearing it is as follows:1) Press Power to turn the printer off and/or unplug the printer.2) Lift the printer cover/lid (scanner unit) until the scanner support holds it open.3) Plug in and turn the printer on.The ink cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position unless the printer is busy.4) Remove the color ink cartridge.5) Lower the printer (scanner unit) until it is completely closed. If the error message displays again, replace the black cartridge with a new black cartridge. If the error message does not display, repeat steps 1–3 and then go to step 6.6) Reinstall the color cartridge and remove the black ink cartridge.7) Lower the printer (scanner unit) until it is completely closed. If the error message displays again, replace the color cartridge with a newcolor cartridge. If there is no error message (indicated by flashing lights), repeat steps 1–3 and then reinstall both ink cartri
