PMHowdy... I've been using the DirectX objects for sometime now - currently DirectX 8.1 including the sample CheckObjectStatus() code with IS Pro 7.01. A while back we noticed that the error numbers and error descriptions from the DirectX object were "messed up". The situation is that the object's error number would be bad (not as documented) yet the error description would be good OR the error number would be good yet the error description would be bad (set to Unknown error). We kludged around some of the problems. For example, the error codes returned for attempts at installing DirectX on NT 4 would be -2147220343 for the number with "DirectX does not support the Windows version on the system" for the description. This would be returned during the CheckObjectSatus() call on OnBegin but when the CheckObjectStatus() call is made in OnFirstUIAfter, the error number would be the correct -1 yet the description would be "Unknown error". While we got used to "-6 Unknown error" meaning not enough disc space, the recent question about "-16 Unknown error" which lead to a "bad Cyrix cpu" caused us review what was wrong with the DirectX error handling code. In looking at the setup.rul from the DirectX 8.1 template, we quickly see that there are two general ways error numbers and descriptions are passed back / set. Inline SetStatusEx calls and the general case statement in get_status. We also quickly determined that the inline SetStatusEx calls were responsible for the bad error numbers but correct descriptions and the get_status case statement produced the good numbers with the bad descriptions ie "Unknown error". In trying to cut a really long story short, the "problem" ends up back with the header file ErrorsDirectX.h in the IFX/Include directory. This file re-defines most (but not all) of the Microsoft DirectX setup exit codes as FACILITY_ITF based HRESULTS type errors despite comments in various DirectX template setup files that these defines must matc
