Looking in the System event log, I see the following sequence (most recent first). Some of the messages appeared more than once: "{Lost Delayed-Write Data} The system was attempting to transfer file data from buffers to \Device\HarddiskVolume7. The write operation failed, and only some of the data may have been written to the file." "The device, \Device\Harddisk3\DR3, is not ready for access yet" "An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk3\DR3 during a paging operation." "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Scsi\aic78xx1." I believe that HarddiskVolume7 is the drive on which my OS lives. I had/have a program that displays the drive mappings, but, of course, now that I need it, I cannot find the program. What API calls return that info? Are there diagnostics that can be used to check the SCSI controller? Might this just be an aberration? Jan 2001 08:41:49 Hi, Hopefully a simple one, but I can't figure it out! :-( I changed my SCSI controller card from an older AIC7850 series to a 2940. The problem is, the computer is still trying to load the device I suppose and I can't figure out how to make this error message stop popping up everytime I reboot. The event log shows the following message: The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Scsi\aic78xx1. After a reboot, I get the "Service failed to start...." How do I get rid of this annoyance? Where is it looking for this device? If all that is correct, check it again, and if it's still giving you an error, power down, remove the power cord from the wall, remove the Adaptec card, reboot to the Windows desktop; exit, shut down again; driver detected a unplug the computer and reinsert the card, preferably in a PCI slot away from the video card. If the card has an onboard bios, set it to default. Make sure you motherboard bios is set to "no" for pnp operating system. I have an older 2930CU working just fine under XP Pro. Best of luck to ya. Event error log - event id 11 The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk5\D My XP Pro machine is logging consistently errors in the event log with the message "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk5\D". The same message appears with \Device\Harddisk3\D and \Device\Harddisk4\D. I can't make out which physical device(s) it is referring to. Is there a translation somewhere? Does the 'D' mean drive D:? If so, why is there multiple Harddrive names associated with it, sinc
