Do you have a user account "suhail" set up? –Pekka 웃 Jan 7 '13 at 16:26 @Pekka How do I connect to MySql. No –Suhail Gupta Jan 7 '13 at 16:28 You need to connect with an existing account and set up users first. XAMPP creates a default mySQL user account, IIRC it's "root" with no password. –Pekka 웃 Jan 7 '13 at 16:29 @Pekka the same result –Suhail Gupta Jan 7 '13 at 16:31 you can usually manage the users and connection with phpmyadmin: 127.0.0.1/phpmyadmin - you have to start xampp-apache and xampp-mysql first unless it is installed as an active service –Adder Jan 7 '13 at 16:33 | show 2 more comments 6 Answers 6 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted The message says access denied for suhail @localhost . Can anyone suggest a solution to the problem or perhaps resources for diagnosing MySQL problems. mysql share|improve this question edited Jan 7 '10 at 1:29 asked May 1 '09 at 0:05 RedBlueThing 122138 MySQL 1045 is explained here: webyog.com/faq/content/23/18/en/… –Ashwin A Aug 10 '12 at 12:14 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted You may need to reset your root password. I had a similar problem a while back. Details: How to reset the root password The basic process involves stopping the server and restarting it with a special initialization script. share|improve this answer answered May 1 '09 at 4:48 Steven Richards 13613 Thanks, this worked perfectly. I do wonder what the installer did to incorrectly set the root password. I would blame myself using the wrong password, but it actually failed from the config wizard where you set the thing. –RedBlueThing May 1 '09 at 5:20 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote 1045 is generally "access denied". See the MySQL documentation for suggestions about how to deal with this. share|improve this answer answered May 1 '09 at 2:54 Tony Meyer 549823 Heh, I noticed that 1045 mapped to "access denied" when I read the message "ERROR 1045:
denied [ERROR 1045] (Windows 8) I'm (attempting) the migrations lesson in the ActiveRecord class, and I've run into an error I can't get around. I've gotten right past the part where we do rake db:create (after struggling and spending a bunch of time getting that to work). Now when I try mysql -u root I get this error: ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: N O) I've spent a few hours searching for a bunch of possible solutions that ultimately didn't work, and I have no idea where to go from here. I'm on Windows 8.1 64-bit, running MySQL Server 5.6, Rails 4.1.6, and Ruby 1.9.3p545 Thanks in advance. Mike Pallas 12,246 Points Mike Pallas Mike Pallas 12,246 Points 2y ago Of course, as soon as I post this question I try mysql -u root -p and have it work. I'm not sure if that -p was the only mitigating factor to it not working before, but I seem to have it going now. Though, I would still welcome any insights into what was going wrong earlier. Gavin Ralston 28,712 Points Gavin Ralston Gavin Ralston 28,712 Points 2y ago I'm sure you're past this point now (looks like you asked quite a while ago) But, yeah, it was the -p flag that was holding you up. :) Posting to the forum is only allowed for members with active accounts.
