Sql Server Backup Error 112
SQL Server High Availability and Disaster Recovery Question 0 Sign in to vote Hi,
Operating System Error 112(failed To Retrieve Text For This Error. Reason 15105)
I was trying to back up a database on SQL 2005 SP2 but then got this error: TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio------------------------------
Sql Backup Failed 112
Backup failed for Server 'NTSYDDBD155\MMSGDEV02'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=9.00.3042.00&EvtSrc=Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.ExceptionTemplates.FailedOperationExceptionText&EvtID=Backup+Server&LinkId=20476 ------------------------------ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: Write on "D:\SQLBackups\ScheduledBackups\MMSGDEV02\CRD.bak" failed: 112(error not found) (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=9.00.3042.00&LinkId=20476 ------------------------------ Other databases on the server can backup successfully, just 2 of them got this error. Any clue? Many Thanks, Nicole Wednesday, October operating system error 112(error not found) 22, 2008 9:50 AM Reply | Quote All replies 0 Sign in to vote Is there sufficient space in the disk for the backup to get completed ? Please check the error log as well for any clues..- Deepak Wednesday, October 22, 2008 10:12 AM Reply | Quote Moderator 0 Sign in to vote Looks like a file path issue. MMSGDEV02\CRD looks like an named instance, but the "\" character adds to the directory path. Try changing the "\" to a "-" before starting the backup. You may need to generate a script from SSMS and hand-edit it. When I checked disk space I found there was still 1 GB free, and the .bak file looked ok, all 4GB of it, not compressed. So I ran a RESTORE VERIFYONLY command on that file: RESTORE VERIFYONLY FROM DISK = 'D:\MSSQL\MSSQL12.MSSQLSERVER\Backup\backup_xxxx.bak' that responded: The backup set on file 1 is valid. So which version of the story should I trust? Note: According to Pinal Dave (http://blog.sqlauthority.com/2016/04/14/sql-server-backup-randomly-failing-error-112-not-enough-space-disk/) the first error is not accurate, especially if using compressed backups. sql-server backup share|improve this question edited Jun 7 at 11:48 marc_s 5,38132743 asked Jun 6 at 10:43 simonpa71 364 Are you compressing the backup or not though? –Molenpad Jun 6 at 10:50 1 Run RESTORE HEADERONLY ... to see what date the backup was taken.
