Solved Win 7: how to take ownership or delete a folder "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft shared\Source Engine" Posted on 2011-03-14 error 1303 Windows 7 Operating Systems MS DOS 4 Verified Solutions 6 Comments 1,787 Views Last Modified: 2012-05-11 Hi Experts: When trying to install Office 2010 on her 32-bit Win 7 operating system, one of my friends got an error message roughly like the following: ************************************************************************* Error 1303. Access denied, C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft shared\Source Engine does not exist or not accessable ************************************************************************* I tried the following attempts: 1. error 1303 the right office 2010 setup program and select "Run as administrator" to do the installation: still get the same error message 2. follow the path I found "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft shared\Source Engine" exists, but when double click to open it: it gave "Access denied" error 3. I look at the Windows login I am using, found that I am already using "Administrator" account 4. I try to delete the "source engine" folder from both window explorer or "rmdir" dos command, both get "access denied" error 5. I open the folder's property window and select security tag, but the privilege's to this folder is not listed. The owner is also not listed. I tried to take the ownership, but failed. Any suggestion how to delete this folder or take the ownership? Thank you. 0 Question by:huangs3 Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 13 Best Solution by5g6tdcv4 Subinacl It is a tool from Microsoft to replace security info http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=e8ba3e56-d8fe-4a91-93cf-ed6985e3927b&displaylang=en Go to Solution 6 Comments Message Author Comment by:huangs32011-03-14 A guess come up to my mind now: the computer may be connected to some local area network domain and the administrator account of that domain is used to create that "so

Bob338 Joined: Aug 24, 2003 Messages: 661 Location: California I can usually tough through my problems with Google and searching her, but after fighting this about a month, I think I need help! The machine is my old computer self assembled in about 2007 with the excellent help here. I decided to clean it to give to the widow of a close friend recently killed in an accident. The machine was originally a dual boot with Windows XP and 7. That may relate to the problem. I eliminated the XP partition with BCD and reinstalled Windows 7 and may have screwed something up here too. Windows 7 is running fine now. In installing Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007, it goes great until you try to access it. The files are on the drive and show up in Explorer, but the program menu at 'Microsoft Office" shows the file is 'empty'. No access. In trying to install the individual components I get the message "Error 1303. Setup cannot access this folder. Insufficient permissions to access." I've fiddled with the permissions, which I don't understand, have taken ownership at the 'Program files' and at that folder, yet it still indicates 'access denied'. Lots of crazy grayed out sections of the 'Properties' menus, some of which I can't seem to change. Never had any problems like this in the few other machines I assembled. In Kindergarten terms can someone please tell me how I can provide the necessary permissions, install and access the program? I've removed it after changing permissions and reinstalled, but same song, different verse. The program is legit and it's installed in my other computers with no issues. The is absolutely NO access so that solution doesn't work. When you select
