See this kb article: You receive a "Installation Error: File not Found" error message when you try to convert the Office 2003 trial program to the full product version of Office 2003 Note The Pa561401.cab file is the file that is most frequently referenced in the filename.cab placeholder of this error message. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896301 When reading the info on link (and sublink found within) provided, please pay special attention to why the moscache folder is used in the first place and why it may not exist now. If mos cache is there and this cab is the only install hangup, I did find this: http://www.harrythompson.com/ZF561407.CAB.htm If this was a trial version and the time has expired, and you have thought that if you uninstalled and reinstalled this you may recover the use of the program, your dead in the water. A secret spot in the registry always knows when this is being attempted. --------------------- Noted some problems if trying to update office but once again it will look for the source of the original install. When doing a number of things with Microsoft Office such as reinstalling http://www.proposedsolution.com/solutions/ms-office-problem-sku001-cab-is-missing/ it, repairing it, installing SP3, etc the error SKU001.CAB is missing may appear http://www.techtalkz.com/microsoft-office/67541-error-1311-source-file-not-found-when-reinstalling-office-03-a.html looking for a CD or other installation files. It seems that even if you have the Microsoft Office files on your hard drive or if you insert your original CD that it still can't find this cab file. This error may also occur when simply launching any of the applications in Microsoft error 1311 Office such as Word, Excel or Powerpoint particularaly after an crash or a previous update was applied which is very annoying indeed. Common Symptoms When re-installing, repairing, upgrading or just launching an application from the Microsoft Office suite the error "SKU001.CAB is missing" appears. Explanation This error is occurring because a registry entry is incorrectly set and setup is looking in the wrong place. Solution - error 1311 c Change CDCACHE Registry Entry If you still have the error message on your screen then close down all open windows including the error so that you have no programs running. Click Start > Run Type regedit and hit ENTER or click OK You should see the navigation tree in the left pane. Navigate to the following keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Software Microsoft Office 11.0 Delivery Inside the Delivery Key there should be one more key which is a long string of numbers for example: 90103207-6000-11A1-9CEE-1160028683D9 Click on the key and then you should see some entries in the right hand pane. Double click on the entry CDCache Change the value to 0 Important Note Depending on your version of Microsoft Office the registry path may be different. The above path and delivery key is only examples. Yours will look similar but not necessarily identical. The important entry to find is the CDCACHE entry. Click OK and then exit the Registry and retry the MS Office installation. 'error 1311 source file not found' when reinstalling Office 03 Microsoft Office View First Unread Thread Tools Display Modes 05-09-2007, 11:01 PM #1 jim6149 Guest Posts: n/a 'error 1311 source file not found' when reinstalling Office 03 Hi, Thanks in advance for the opportunity to ask for assistance. When I repaired XP sp2 after a problem with Trend MicroCillin 2007 the Windows installer started to play up. I ended up uninstalling MS office 2003 after having installer popping up every time I tried to open Office progs. When I tried to reinstall MSO 03 but got the following error message: 'Error 1311 source file not found c:\msocache\allusers\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9\E3561406.cab' I tried Windows install cleanup to remove the installer problem then installed Windows Installer 3.1 also tried a full file upgrade of Office sp3. Only got 'patch could not be installed errors'. Then tried reinstalling XP sp2 with current upgrades - no good. I saw a post elsewhere about changing the permissions on msocache - but I can't even find the darn file. I tried copying the files off the cd onto my hard drive - no good either. That's it, I'm out of ideas. Stuck again. Any assistance much appreciated Regards Jim Sponsored Links 06-09-2007, 10:00 AM #2 Mary Sauer Guest Posts: n/a Re: 'error 1311 source file not found' when reinstalling Office 03 See: "Error 1311: cannot locate source file" error message when you install a 2007 Office suite or Office 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/818234/en-us OFF: Error Messages When You Try to Run Office Setup on Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310777/en-us -- Mary Sauer MSFT MVP http://office.microsoft.com/ http://msauer.mvps.org/ news://msnews.microsoft.com "jim6149"
