Rep: 11 Syler Solutions 2 3 Posted: 02/08/2014 Options Permalink History Subscribe Unsubscribe Replaced hard drive, restore fails with error 1429 My iPod 3g (iPod with Dock Connector) died many years ago due to a https://discussions.apple.com/thread/925213?tstart=0 failed hard drive. I have recently replaced the HD, but now it won't restore. iTunes gives error 1429 after it attempts to do so. Trying to format the drive via Disk Utility merely results in it hanging indefinitely at "Partitioning." What could be causing this? The iPod passes all internal diagnostics, including the hard drive surface scan. The Mac sees the iPod, and even (once) mounted the drive on the desktop. https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/160672/Replaced+hard+drive,+restore+fails+with+error+1429 Something else I've noticed that may or may not be related: When the iPod is plugged in (via FireWire), my Mac tends to hang. Operations such as restarting or closing iTunes will take a very long time. This was true even before it died and on a different Mac. I always chalked it up to FireWire, but perhaps it's some sort of clue. Answer this question I have this problem too Subscribed to new answers Is this a good question? If that does not help at all, try to reformat the drive with NTFS file system (Windows) and then switch it back to your OS. The restore option in iTunes should then restore your iPod back to factory settings using Mac. Hope this helps, good luck. Was this answer helpful?
