I have recently replaced the HD, but now it won't restore. iTunes gives error 1429 after it attempts to do so. Trying to format the drive via Disk Utility merely results in it hanging indefinitely at "Partitioning." What could be causing this? The iPod passes all internal diagnostics, including the hard drive surface scan. The Mac sees the iPod, and even (once) https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/160672/Replaced+hard+drive,+restore+fails+with+error+1429 mounted the drive on the desktop. Something else I've noticed that may or may not be related: When the iPod is plugged in (via FireWire), my Mac tends to hang. Operations such as restarting or closing iTunes will take a very long time. This was true even before it died and on a different Mac. I always chalked it up to FireWire, but perhaps it's some sort of clue. Answer this question I have this problem too Subscribed to new answers Is this a good question? If that does not help at all, try to reformat the drive with NTFS file system (Windows) and then switch it back to your OS. The restore option in iTunes should then restore your iPod back to factory settings using Mac. Hope this helps, good luck. Was this answer helpful? Yes No Voted Undo Score 0 Cancel Comments: It tu

The same message appears now when I plug it in: "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." I have restored my iPod. or so it leads me to believe. "Your iPod has been restored to factory settings, and is restarting. Please leave your iPod connected. It will appear in the iTunes window after it restarts." And then, the same message appears on the summary page: "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." I do not understand what is wrong with it. I've already tried fixing it according to the apple site, but I can't find any examples of having this happen. If someone could help it would be greatly appreciated. 02-28-2008, 07:40 PM #2 dekalenda Freshman Lounger Join Date: Feb 2008 Posts: 4 permalink I have had the same problem.
