I have recently replaced the HD, but now it won't restore. iTunes gives https://discussions.apple.com/thread/925213?tstart=0 error 1429 after it attempts to do so. Trying to format the drive via Disk Utility merely results in it hanging indefinitely at "Partitioning." What could be causing this? The iPod passes all internal diagnostics, including the hard drive surface scan. The Mac sees the iPod, and even (once) mounted the drive on the desktop. If that does not help at all, try to reformat the drive with NTFS file system (Windows) and then switch it back to your OS. The restore option in iTunes should then restore your iPod back to factory settings using Mac. Hope this helps, good luck. Was this answer helpful? Yes No Voted Undo Score 0 Cancel Comments: It turns out that this is a FireWire issue. Either it's my FireWire cable or it's some problem with FireWire in general with this iPod. Reformatting the drive using Disk Utility to FAT and restoring it via USB on a Windows computer worked perfectly, and now it works fine on my Mac via USB, but will not even mount via FireWire, though th
