Grub Error 17 Android
Newbie Join Date Mar 2004 Posts 185 Grub Error 17 with VMWare I am having problems using Fusion's "bootcamp" to boot VM from a native install of WinXP on my hard drive. I am using Grub on my MacbookPro as my hard drive is MBRed. Unfortunately VM hangs on Grub for me, yielding an "Error 17". Clickable Thumbnail: According to this gentoo thread: 17 : Cannot mount selected partition This error is returned if the partition requested exists, but the filesystem type cannot be recognized by GRUB. FYI I'm running OSX, WinXP, Visa (once I get around to it), and Linux on an MBRed hard drive in my MacBookPro with Grub, mainly so I can use Grub hiding between the XP and Vista install like my PC setup. I had to push an image of OSX onto the mbred hard drive, as OSX will not install to a mbred hard drive natively, but will run nicely once there. More info here if you are curious. It means GRUB is booted up but grub error 17 can't find linux kernel. Your SSD may be something broken. I recommend you to try formatting ext3 under Ubuntu as the first step.
