It seems dd is not doing the trick. Because of the partition size. Right now i am reading more on the subject. Any help is indeed helpful. sebastiangz's Website 4 Reply by jgombos 2008-06-02 02:55:42 jgombos Member Offline Registered: 2007-11-10 Posts: 3 Re: Grub error 17 after flashing x86 image I've got the exact same problem. Grub error 17 is kind of scary because you don't even see your grub menu in this case and grub error 15 is very https://stringofthoughts.wordpress.com/2009/05/24/grub-error-17-debianubuntu/ frustrating because it shows the grub menu but comes back to same error over and over again. I was also terrified of these error because once you get these error you can't use your system, you can't access the net and that's is just not cool.is it ? The reason for grub error 17 is a messed up partition table disk order. How partition table disk order gets messed up I have no idea but it does sometimes and then you get error 17. So what does it mean by a messed up partition table disk order. It means say your drive A was /dev/hda2 earlier now it is /dev/hda3 or something else bottom line for you to know is that you need to fix this to get rid of error 17. A good way to find this out is using a live CD $ sudo fdisk -l You ‘ll get something like (this is only an example) Disk /dev/hda: 200.0 GB, 200049647616 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 24321 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Disk identifier: 0x247ae615 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/hda1 * 1 1275 10241406 c W95 FAT32 (LBA) /dev/hda2 1276 24320 185108962+ f W95 Ext'd (LBA) /dev/hda5 1276 1397 979902 82 Linux swap / Solaris /d

In this blog I will cover steps to create an http://www.abclinuxu.cz/poradna/linux/show/154815 x86 OpenWRT live USB on a Windows 7 PC. The steps are fairly simple. Just downloading files, move them around, and type a few commands. No Linux experience necessary. They can be easily adapted to error 17 Windows Vista or Windows XP if you have an older PC. With a little more work, the technique discussed here can be adapted to create a bootable-x86-ISO/live-USB combination, for PCs that can't boot from USB. That is something in my pipeline. And of course Live USB can be created on a Linux system, but I don't plan to write up the instructions. Leave a comment if you need help with that. grub error 17 Finally, the theory of operation comes after the instructions. I think this live USB concept is a big improvement over my livecd idea (see Creating OpenWrt x86 Live CD with USB Support). I plan to keep up with newer OpenWRT releases. Background Occasionally I want to try different OpenWRT configurations while keeping the main installation intact. Although I can already do that with my custom live CDs , they are still cumbersome and slow when switching back and forth. An even better method is to boot from USB to a selection of firmware versions or configurations. To create a bootable live USB using the steps discussed here, you'll need An x86 PC that can boot from USB or CD. If you PC can boot from CD but not USB, see Booting From USB Without BIOS Support. A Windows PC for configuring the USB flash drive. A FAT or FAT32 USB flash drive. Each OpenWRT installation needs about 60 MiB of space. You do not need a large drive to start. Installation can be moved from one drive to another. Syslinux for creating bootable USB. Syslinux is free. Its website is http://www.syslinux.org.
