If you have just logged in and received the 401 Unauthorized error, it means that the credentials you entered were invalid for some reason. How to Fix the 401 Unauthorized Error Check for errors in the URL. It's possible http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/401error.htm that the 401 Unauthorized error appeared because the URL was typed incorrectly or the link that was clicked on points to the wrong URL - one that is for authorized users only.If you're sure the URL is valid, visit the website's main page and look for a link that says Login or Secure Access. Enter your credentials here and then try the page again. If you don't have credentials, follow the instructions provided on the website for setting up an account. If you're sure the page you're trying to reach shouldn't need authorization, the 401 Unauthorized error message may be a mistake. At that point, it's probably best to contact the webmaster or other website contact and inform them of the problem. The webmaster of most Internet sites can be reached via email at webmaster@website.com, replacing website.com with the actual website name. The 401 Unauthorized error can also appear immediately after login which is an indication that the website received your username and password but found something about them to be invalid (e.g. your password is incorrect). To configure IE to prompt for credentials for Trusted sites: Open Internet Explorer. From the Tools menu, click Internet Options. Select the Security tab. Click the Trusted sites Web content zone. Click the Custom level button. From the list of settings, scroll to the end and select the button beside Prompt for user name and password. Click OK. Click OK to close the Internet Options window. When I try to connect to the TeamPulse server I get a prompt for a username and password. When I enter my credentials it will not log in and eventually get a "401 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials." error. I do the same thing with Firefox but it logs in just fine. Anyone heard of anything like this? I want to make it work with IE. Thanks, Jordan Admin 123 posts Posted 07 Oct 2011 Link to this post Hello Coley, We've similar problems for our hosted trial and we suggest people to use ".\[username]" in IE.
