Published on Sep 19, 2012My DLNA devices have been having major issues with Plex lately, but here is a workaround!I have 3 WDTV Live (2 new gen, one 1st gen) and a PS3 that can see my Plex Media Server (Ubuntu server 12.04) and it's sections. Normally they can play the media just fine but lately they display 'No Media Found' when I try to view a section. The PS3 additionally gives the common 'Error 501' DLNA error. The Plex server is always responsive via the web UI and native Plex clients (PC / Android) works just fine. While I can ssh into the Plex server and do a start/stop, which will fix the DLNA issue temporarily, this is a real pain. While tinkering with my 1st gen WDTV I discovered the following workaround:If I navigate to the 'Remote Video' section I can drill down into my sections and play media.Once I browse a section this way, I can once again browse that section from the main section list in Plex. This works the same way on each client. Category Gaming License Standard YouTube License Show more Show less Loading... I just bought my PS3 over the weekend, and ever since I hooked it up, I keep getting this error message:Media Server Error: DLNA Protocol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXUEkH1DSZw Error (501) has occurredFrom what I've gathered by googling the error message, it would appear that this is something related to Windows Media Center, but I haven't even used Media Center with the PS3 yet. Also, when doing an Internet Connection test on my PS3, it says "UPnP: Failed" (even though I've set UPnP to "enable"), and my NAT type keeps http://www.gamespot.com/forums/playstation-nation-1000002/dlna-error-501-26259309/ saying 3 when I believe I want it at 2.Any ideas or suggestions? professorabsMember Since: March 24, 2008Posts: 25professorabsFollowForum Posts: 25Followed by: 0Reviews: 0 Stacks: 0Forum Karma: 0#2 Posted by professorabs (25 posts) - 8 years, 7 months agoI just read your posting...I just hooked up my PS3 and keep getting the same damn error message...did you ever resolve it??Thanks!!! big_boss4lifeMember Since: December 4, 2006Posts: 2633big_boss4lifeFollowForum Posts: 2633Followed by: 0Reviews: 1 Stacks: 0Forum Karma: 0#3 Posted by big_boss4life (2633 posts) - 8 years, 7 months agohooked it up how?ethernet cable? or wireless`? professorabsMember Since: March 24, 2008Posts: 25professorabsFollowForum Posts: 25Followed by: 0Reviews: 0 Stacks: 0Forum Karma: 0#4 Posted by professorabs (25 posts) - 8 years, 7 months agoI'm hooked up via Linksys wireless.....music woks fine (for now)......no vids.....and, keeps popping the message: DLNA protocol error (501) has occurred....also, .a network error has occurred 8071053dSometimes even saying: Disconnected from the media server...however, I"m still able to gain internet access....I figure it is just a setting on my desktop...I enabled sharing, etc on Windows Media Player.......kinda at a loss! jspot0Membe

I stream video to my PS3, Samsung Blue ray player and Samsung TV. I've never had an issue with watching anything I've added to my library. I've had to add a switch to my dlna protocol error setup because I've finally ran out of hard wire ports for my devices. Since I've added the switch (Cisco SD2008) suddenly I cannot stream anything through DLNA. My PS3 gives an error message of "Media Server Error: A DLNA protocol error (501) has occurred" and when I go into my AllShare program on my Samsung no videos are found. But the weird thing is is that Plex Media Server runs just fine. Plex doesn't play a lot of my videos and it's not the most friendly or fast program to use so I'm really stuck in a hard place here. I'm really hoping someone can give me advice to fix this problem. I would greatly appreciate any help resolving this issue. Get all Cat 6 cables so running at Gigabit. ensure NAS and Switch have Static IPs. This seemed to make everything happy once again and worked.Incidently, I agree with your view on Plex, I wondered wh
