Works fine when I open excel and navigate to the directory where the workbook exist. When I click directly on the file and file not found I run the macro I get a "Run-time error '53': File Not Found" Sub Log_Cleaner() Dim numfiles As String DeleteAll FileLoc = ThisWorkbook.Path FileCountA (FileLoc) End Sub Function FileCountA(Path As String) As Long Dim strTemp As String Dim lngCount As Long Dim C3Po As String Sheets("Variables").Select C3Po = Range("C3").Value If C3Po = "" Then C3Po = "*.*" End If strTemp = Dir(Path & "\" & C3Po) If strTemp = "" Then MsgBox "No files found that fit Search criteria", , "CM MESSAGE" Exit Function End If ImportTextFile strTemp, "!@#", 0 Do While strTemp <> "" lngCount = lngCount + 1 strTemp = Dir If strTemp = "" Then Exit Function End If ImportTextFile strTemp, "!@#", lngCount Loop End Function Formatting tags added by mark007 Last edited by eddynutz; 07-17-2008 at 11:08 AM. So you probably need to change ImportTextFile strTemp, "!@#", 0 ImportTextFile strTemp, "!@#", lngCount Formatting tags added by mark007 to ImportTextFile Path & "\" & strTemp, "!

This suggests that when you start Excel you have a workbook loading which runs a macro upon opening. That macro is looking for a file that doesn't exist. The workbooks that load upon startup will be in one of two places: - Either in a folder called xlStart, the location of which will vary from version to version (you can find it through the Find or Search application on the Start menu of Windows); or - In any folder that you have specified under Tools -> Options -> General. (The name of the field containing the folder will be different in different versions of Excel; it's always wise to specify which version you're using when posting a question. In Excel XP (2002) it's "At startup, open all files in:" In 97, I think it's called "Alternate Startup File Location". You may have nothing in there (most people don't), in which case don't worry about it.) Using Windows Explorer, move all of the files in those directories to somewhere else. Now start Excel, and open them one at a time until you get the error. That's the culprit. All you need to do is put all of your other files back except for that one. There's also a possibility that the error is being triggered by an add-in. Go to Tools -> Add-Ins and uncheck each entry that you see there. Close and
