I've searched these https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/gg251822.aspx forums for 3 days, but found no answer, I've googled 'till my eyes bled but still I haven't found a solution... In a project I'm currently working on I need the ability to compress files, so I decided to use BZIP2 compression as I've used it before and it works well, so to save some time I simply copied the code from a previous project; Code: Private Declare Function z2Compress Lib "libbz2.dll" Alias "BZ2_bzBuffToBuffCompress" (Dest As Any, destLen As Long, Source http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?495328-RESOLVED-quot-File-not-found-quot-run-time-error-53 As Any, ByVal sourceLen As Long, ByVal blockSize100k As Long, ByVal Verbosity As Long, ByVal workFactor As Long) As Long Now, this DLL-file, libbz2.dll is compiled using VC++ from the latest BZIP2 source (1.0.4), and works just fine in the other project. However, whenever I attempt to use the "z2Compress" function in this project I get a "Run-time error 53: File not found: libbz2.dll", and this file is located in the same folder as the project files. It works just fine though, if I statically declare the path to the file: Code: Private Declare Function z2Compress Lib "c:\my_project\libbz2.dll" Alias "BZ2_bzBuffToBuffCompress" (Dest As Any, destLen As Long, Source As Any, ByVal sourceLen As Long, ByVal blockSize100k As Long, ByVal Verbosity As Long, ByVal workFactor As Long) As Long Though that is out of the question, once compiled, this project is not not meant to run from a static path, it's supposed to be able to run from where ever. I'm losing my mind over this...any ideas on why it can't find the file? I'd really, REALLY appreciate some help on this. error occurs when a file is accidentally misplaced by the system or when a .dll file is not found in its proper search path. This problem mostly concerns dynamic link library files, which are needed by Windows to perform most functions. You need to resolve the issues http://www.personalcomputerfixes.com/general-errors/runtime-error-53-%E2%80%9Cfile-not-found%E2%80%9D-error-repair-tutorial/ surrounding the specific .dll file causing problems to be able to do away with the runtime error 53. What Causes Runtime Error 53? When you encounter this error, an alert like this will be shown on your screen: “Runtime error http://www.dreamincode.net/forums/topic/306019-run-time-error-53-file-not-found/ '53': File not found (yourfile.dll).” The error notification is telling you that a certain .dll file is missing. Windows expects the file to be in a certain search path, but when it tries to use it, the file has disappeared. error 53 The file could have been accidentally misplaced by the system or by someone using the computer. Alternatively, this problem can also be caused by errors inside the registry - concerning some of the important settings stored there. You need to resolve the error to fix the problem, which can be achieved using the steps listed next. How To Fix Runtime Error 53 Step 1 – Search For The Mentioned File On Your PC The error will report a missing file runtime error 53 in your system. It needs to be placed back here, so navigate to that location and paste the file back into it, and then re-register it to Windows. To do this, you can follow these simple steps: Click Start Go to All Programs Locate Accessories > Windows Explorer On the left pane, navigate to get to “C:/Windows/System32” Once in the right location, in the right pane, right-click and select Paste The file is now in the correct location, but needs to be re-registered with Windows: Open the Command Prompt by clicking Start Select Run Type “c

Have checked spelling of file and in the open statement. the file is in the same directory as the program. never had this problem before. error always occurs at Open "113Data.txt" For Input As #1 which is the first thing the program does. I can put a vb2010 program data file name (which is in a different directory) in the above open statement and it will go get it and load it with no problem. All I have been able to find is that a .dll file is missing or corrupted, but no hint as to which .dll or where it is located or what to do about it. I'm an old rookie. I'm using VB6 because the vb2010 program I wrote for my wife's desktop (XP SP3)won't load on her laptop (XP SP3) because of "no certified jit debugger" although it has the required .NET platform installed. If you could help me on this one the VB6 question won't be critical, although I would still like to know about the error 53 problem. Thanks for anything you can share. Maybe a test function to retrieve all the file names from the application directory, then example them as a byte[] to see if there is something hinky going on. Or just rename the file in Windows E
