AOL Error Codes We provide the following error messages as a return bounce for every undeliverable email. You might receive a 554 permanent bounce or 421 temporary try again error. Please see below for explanation of our error codes. Reverse DNS errors We reject mail from IPs that have a generic reverse DNS (PTR Record). Common generic rDNS error 554 smtp might contain in-addr.arpa, pool, dyn, dhcp etc. in the rDNS. Please contact your hosting provider and set a fully qualified domain name (FQDN) as your rDNS (ideally pointing to the sending domain). RTR Blocks 554 RTR:BB AOL works with many ISPs to maintain lists of dynamic and residential IP addresses. Per our Email Guidelines, we do not accept mail from these addresses. If you are blocked by a RTR:BB error and have a fully qualified domain name (FQDN), please open a support request to lift the RTR:BB block. If you do not have a FQDN, please have your ISP create one for you and then open a support request. 554 RTR:CH A computer, or computers, on your network may be compromised and sending mail that matches the signature of known spam. My server is terra.es, in Spain. John Broster AOL has a help file that says error 554 RLY B1 is an automated block "placed on an IP address when AOL member complaints go over our set threshold. These are automated blocks that are removed by the system within 24 hours if the complaints are below the threshold." You could, of course, set up a free email address to communicate with your friends on AOL. In fact, you could sign up for a free AOL mailbox with 2GB of storage at mail.aol.com, and see if AOL blocks itself. to email an AOL user using my VPS they receive this error; SMTP error from remote mailer after initial connection:host mailin-04.mx.aol.com [64.12.137.184]: 554- (RTR:BL) The information presently available to AOL indicates that this554- server is being used to transmit unsolicited bulk e-mail to AOL. Based554- on AOL's e-mail policies at http://postmaster.info.aol.com, AOL cannot554- accept further e-mail transactions from this server. Please have your554- ISP/ASP contact AOL to resolve the issue at 703.265.4670.554 Connecting IP: 216.22.24.33I had emailed admin@2012S.net, but never received a reply as to how to fix the issue, or if it's possible. AOL does't like SMTP servers without RDNS. I had thought that could have been the issue, but since the IP's are listed in Spews as a Level 1 spammer (Or whatever the classification is), I wasn't sure if it was because of that.
