You can hear the modem dial out but always comes up with error 676 line busy, I deleted the dial up she had and https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/187215 went through it and reput everything in and it still came up with line busy. I uninstalled and then rebooted and it found the modem and installed it. I tried to dial up again and it was the same thing 676 line busy. I went to control panel> phone and modem and went in where you can query the modem and got answers back . and also https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-windows-xp-sp2-modem-dials-out-but-give-error-676-line-busy-please-help.390518/ it says it is working properly. The only thing I can think of is if something else is trying to dial out or use the modem and making it busy. I guess this is my question now I am not at her house anymore she lives about 80 miles from here but if I can get an answer I will call her and take her throught it. In her device manager she show com1, com2, and LPT1 Her modem is on com3 Would it help and/or can I go into device manager and uninstall the com1 and com2 and then reboot and will that reinstall them and if so do you think that would help?? This problem started I guess when she was going to get DSL and her ISP I guess sent her the stuff, the external modem, etc and then they said she waas to far away. I think she tried to hook it up. I was not there. But when I looked at it today everything was back where it belonged and she never had a problem before she messed with the dsl stuff. Can someone tell me if that would help?? I and she called t

I have three green lights, both when using usb or ethernet ( westell dual modem) and I can eventually connect, but several minutes later I will lose my connection or it will slow down to unusable. I have tried both the verizon dialer, and using the network connections through xp.Anyone have any ideas other than a full reinstall? The supervisor at Verizon said I could just reinstall the Ras potion of windows, but he couldn't tell me how.[text was edited by author 2003-02-25 01:09:22] · actions · 2003-Feb-25 12:55 am · Jeff_BPremium Memberjoin:2000-09-24Brick, NJ Jeff_B Premium Member 2003-Feb-25 5:33 am You could give RASPPPOE a try. Steven - That error is being reported by your modem and all Windows is doing is passing the error along. There's no way I know of to prevent Windows from reporting modem messages so what you have to do is suppress the message itself. Check your modem's documentation - but to disable busy signal detect on a Hayes-compatible modem you have to add an X2 to the modem's initialization string. In Control Panel --> Phone and Modem Options --> Modems, select your modem and hit the properties button. Under the "Advanced" tab you'll see a box for extra initialization commands. Add - X0 (zero) to disable dialtone and busy signal detection. This is also one way to get a modem to blind dial - that's dialing without waiting for a dialtone. X2 to disable busy signal detection only. Check your modem manual, though - your mileage may vary. good luck! >-----Original Message----- >Does anyone here know how to disable windows xp from >identifying if the phone line is busy?
