After reset my password by AT&T DSL tech support, I can't get connected through the bridge mode.My computer is on Windows XP. When I start the "broadband connection" with login ID and password (connecting through WAN miniport PPPOE), always got an error message:"Error 676: The phone line is busy".I tested on two computers, directly wired to the 2wire box. Same result. Talked to ATT tier-2, even reset the modem twice. No lock. Posted on 2003-12-17 Networking Hardware-Other 2 Verified Solutions 16 Comments 6,903 Views Last Modified: 2013-12-27 Urgent http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r24312788-error-676-the-phone-line-is-busy-ATT-Bridge-mode - Won't bore you with too much detail, but I have following scenario: Client - XP Pro - connected via Wifi Bufallo DSLHub and RJ to LAN and outside world. V92 modem, sitting next to... Server - 2003 - most roles except VPN but including RRAS. V92 modem For both: V92 modems setup identically (57600 etc - I stepped down from 115k) 2 (repeat two) phone lines to exchange DSL sharing is fine https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/20829054/Error-676-on-modem-connecting-XP-Pro-PC-to-Win-2k3-using-RAS-500-points-toughy-or-maybe-not.html LAN is fine via WiFi and/or ethernet wired Modem dialup to ISP is fine Want to test RAS - i.e. client (XPPro) dialup to server (2k3) via exchange Summarizing from another thread on EE that bore slender fruit: The two PCs (client and server) work perfectly together as such - i.e. when connected via an ethernet hub (forget about dialup at this point), thus making up a LAN, I can log the client on using username, password and get all the expected file access I would expect So user setup, domain setup, authentication etc all works fine - Even the web .NET stuff works fine with Frontpage extensions etc etc. so I can run my web site from the client. So I can't be doing too bad on server setup. Now, I disconnect the connections from Hub. So no LAN. Just A PC and a server. As I said, RRAS is setup and states that the modem is setting there listening. Now, here's where it gets interesting. Client dials up, right. ring, ring. I'm looking at the server Port for modem on RRAS. It says 'Listening'. Hear server's modem answer. Immediately I get error 656 on client. Server modem is weeee, shkshkshk'ing while I continuously hit refresh on RRAS's modem port status screen. Remeber that Client, at this point has abandoned call with error. Keep hitting refresh on server. It

There's no way I know of to prevent Windows from reporting modem messages so what you have to do is suppress the message itself. Check your modem's documentation - but to disable busy signal detect on a Hayes-compatible modem you have to add an X2 to the modem's initialization string. In Control Panel --> Phone and Modem Options --> Modems, select your modem and hit the properties button. Under the "Advanced" tab you'll see a box for extra initialization commands. Add - X0 (zero) to disable dialtone and busy signal detection. This is also one way to get a modem to blind dial - that's dialing without waiting for a dialtone. X2 to disable busy signal detection only. Check your modem manual, though - your mileage may vary. good luck! >-----Original Message----- >Does anyone here know how to disable windows xp from >identifying if the phone line is busy?
